D8 candidate Jeffery Bowen just posted a literal contract with the district.
Exact commitments. No hedging. He is asking voters to hold him to it.
Same spirit as Prop I: measure results, demand accountability, stop writing blank checks.
Early voting is open NOW. This race is close.
Vote for Bowen in District 8.

Austin’s status quo has already failed us.
Higher costs, stalled projects, developer-first priorities, and more of the same for a decade.
This is the chance to stop it.

Austin voters will see a ballot measure for Prop I this year. As a former @austintexasgov employee, I recommend you vote in favor. I remember being part of meetings where $50,000 expenditures were made with little due diligence because that was just loose change in the City's couch cushions. Help hold the City of Austin accountable to the taxpayer with an outside audit.

An independent audit of the city budget is not the same as a black box organization that went around destroying things.

Why Austin voters stopped trusting City Hall with their money - and want Proposition I.
1. 67 of 151 annual performance expectations by hired vendors were missed.
2. $1.08 million for a new Austin city logo.
3. Austin government staff could not provide requirements/needs for >half of "consulting contracts".
4. ~150 solo lunches charged to a City card.
5. ~$980,000 in fraudulent vendor transactions from a single employee.

Take back your city, Austin. Do it for this generation, and for the next. Our children do not need to be fighting these same transparency battles in the decades to come.
Vote Aye on Prop I.
Vote for New Council Leadership.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Statement from New Day Austin
AUSTIN, TEXAS, October 7, 2026
Today’s press conference underscores exactly why Austin needs a new City Council and why Austin needs to mandate regular City efficiency audits in its Charter.
Austin needs a new direction at City Hall. These incumbents and their self-serving special interests simply failed to get the drift from last fall’s defeat, by nearly a 2-to-1 margin, of their proposed 20% tax increase under Prop Q. As city employees, these union members are supposed to be public servants. That means they are supposed to serve the public, rather than the public serving them. They are, in fact, the most resistant force against change.
The public deeply mistrusts the City Council’s spending decisions. The reckless City Council majority needs to be replaced with responsible citizens who will put the household budget ahead of the city budget, who will abide by the public will, and who will welcome the scrutiny for savings that a Prop I audit would mandate before going back to the voters and asking for more.
How is it that an audit is good if the Council requires it, but bad if the public requires it? In a democracy, citizens create their government. They can vote directly on laws and policies, such as Prop I, and they can elect public officials to represent them. Elected officials derive their power from the public, not the other way around.
Austin voters want the government to take a different direction. We have a golden opportunity to correct our course in the upcoming election. To that end, New Day Austin wholeheartedly supports five challengers who will do so, and we endorse the audit mandated by Proposition I.

Prop I gives us the report, the data, that informs the rest of the strategy.
Having unbiased data is the best way to ensure that our government functions well:
That we're not wasting money on consultants - which enables us to bring those services in house and pay city employees, residents, to do the work.
That we're not funding corrupt organizations which divert tax dollars - which enables us to provide better services that reach their intended recipients.
It's about respecting the scarcity of our tax dollars so that our investments in our city and residents have the greatest impact on our daily lives.

Guy who beat a 6-month pregnant woman and dragged her down the stairs by her hair, then got arrested again and again while out on bond -- here's what happened since January:
Prosecutors dismissed the violence assault charge.
His drug dealing arrest included six felony drug cases. 5 were dismissed, 1 was pled down.
Another drug stash with 4 first-degree felony cases. DA rejected all 4, no charges filed.
Bonded out again in April.
So 11 cases. Just 1 conviction, on a reduced charge.
He’s parole-eligible in 3 years, minus time served and good-conduct credit, so there is little chance he will be in prison for long.
DA Garza and his prosecutors apparently did everything in their power to get him the lightest sentence.
Reminder that Garza campaigned on refusing to prosecute drug crimes on the books.
AUSTIN MAN out on bond for beating a 6-month pregnant woman - punching her head, dragging her by the hair down the stairs while her two small children ran to a neighbor begging them to call 911. Deputies had to ram through the front door he'd barricaded shut.
A month later, still on bond: arrested again dealing cocaine, heroin, meth, and more.
Two months after that, still on bond: dragged another woman to the ground by her hair until it ripped out.
Then in January, cops linked Paul Torres to a Williamson County overdose.
Search warrant turns up a drug stash big enough to stock a street market: a kilo of cocaine, half a kilo of heroin, 200+ grams of fentanyl, nearly 600 grams of meth, plus Xanax, shrooms, and $17K cash.
Torres, 35, has been cycling through Travis County courts for decades.
His record:
• 25+ cases
• Organized crime charges (first-degree felony) — dismissed
• Aggravated assault with deadly weapon — dismissed
• First-degree drug dealing — reduced to simple possession
• Burglary, car theft, assault — plea after plea
Only real time served: 2 years for burglary in 2009. Everything else: Dismissed, reduced, or time-served deals.
