The key difference now apart from specifications is that Dangote Refinery Lamu is under construction. The rest are talking. We are building. 40 moths time the 7th biggest oil refinery will be ready. How long will the talking stage be ongoing?
The Port of Lamu has welcomed MV Great Glory, a vessel carrying the second batch of heavy project cargo destined for the Dangote East Africa Refinery.
The shipment of the 154 assorted heavy machinery equipment to Lamu, is another concrete step in the physical mobilisation of the project that will reshape Kenya's energy landscape and anchor the country's northern region as an industrial hub.
This follows an earlier delivery in late September, when the MV Da Yang docked at the port with nearly 3,000 metric tonnes of construction equipment for the refinery.
The Dangote East Africa refinery, valued at approximately Sh2.2 trillion, is designed to process up to 700,000 barrels of crude oil per day, making it the largest refining complex in East Africa once completed. It will produce petrol, diesel, and aviation fuel for Kenya and the region.

In August 2026, 61.2% of the logged transits through the Strait of Hormuz never actually happened. They were artifacts of GPS jamming, generated while real vessel traffic barely moved at all.

Saudi Arabia is sustaining a very strong oil loading activity, per to @CopernicusEU Sentinel-2 imagery. Yesterday (Oct 15), it was loading 9 VLCCs plus another 2 Suezmax / Aframax with crude, for a total of >20 million barrels, from terminals in the Persian Gulf and Red Sea.
CHINA'S IMPORT BOOM EXPOSES ITS BIGGEST TECHNOLOGICAL VULNERABILITY
China's September 2026 imports surged 31.0% year over year.
But the composition tells a far more revealing story.
Automatic data-processing equipment imports: +296.5%.
Integrated circuits: +74.7%.
Iron and steel products: approximately +46%.
Unwrought copper products: approximately +40%.
Natural gas: +34.0%.
Copper ores and concentrates: +27.1%.
Together, data-processing equipment, integrated circuits, and copper ores contributed 22.6 percentage points—approximately 73% of China's total import growth.
Meanwhile, automobile imports contracted roughly 25%, automotive parts fell approximately 35%, and large aircraft imports plunged more than 50%.
YCC Capital's conclusion is clear:
China's import recovery is being driven disproportionately by technology infrastructure and industrial inputs—not broad consumer demand.
Despite massive investments in technological self-sufficiency, China's dependence on imported advanced components remains substantial.
The AI boom is boosting China's trade statistics while exposing its strategic dependencies.
