I'm often asked re "Brookings's view" on a policy issue. Ans: the institution doesn't have "a view." Scholars do, & sometimes those are different These on 🇨🇳🇺🇸 by 2 @BrookingsFP scholars reflect that @thomaswright08: brook.gs/38zklFA @ryanl_hass: brook.gs/38QQNn5

Most of us are thrilled to see 2020 go. This year I was nervous about whether I could convince editors at outlets to publish The Outlaw Ocean Project's reporting. The good news: Many did - including The Economist, BBC, Der Spiegel, The New Yorker, NBC News, & The Washington Post.

Perhaps it is just my wishful thinking, but the emphasis on working with allies & partners and upholding the rules-based international order in the „New Tri-Service Maritime Strategy“ marines.mil/News/News-Displa… is hard to ignore. There‘s hope! #WIRSINDMARINE

This is actually a pretty fantastic document! I don't recall enjoying reading CS21CS so much in 2015. Check it out, and take a look at my story: news.usni.org/2020/12/17/new…
Excited about today’s @USNavy, @USCG and @USMC Tri-Service Maritime Strategy. We must employ our forces to be ready in competition, crisis and conflict, and also develop a modernized force that deters adversaries and advances and defends U.S. interests. go.usa.gov/xAYgn

I see a lot of demand signals for @USCG in this strategy. It would be nice if the strategy pointed this out and pushed harder for “A Bigger US Coast Guard.”

After offering the Maritime little more than an order for “god da**ed steam” and constant leadership churn, Trump’s sober Tri-Service Strategy is a surprise—and an unexpected opportunity for the incoming Biden team. forbes.com/sites/craighooper… via @forbes
Thrilled to be featured alongside one of my personal role models - an exceptional leader and engineer - my sister, CDR Liz Durika.

Great to see the best of Coast Guard foresight helping folks navigate their way through this complicated time in this thoughtful piece by @PeterScoblic. Let’s hope we can take our own advice!
Which U.S. government agency has been best at responding to crazy, hard-to-foresee events like the pandemic and 9/11? Why it's the Coast Guard, of course. @PeterScoblic explains why, and what other organizations can learn from them. hbr.org/2020/07/emerging-fro…
We awarded 2 Distinguished Flying Crosses to heroic pilots for their efforts in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. Nothing I say can do their actions justice. All I ask is that you read their citations. Thank you for your devotion to duty, LCDR Carrillo & LCDR Crowley.

The shooter who murdered my sweet little Daniel brought 10 30-round magazines with him into Sandy Hook Elementary. In 4 minutes, he shot 154 bullets, killing 20 children and 6 educators. Sign our petition demanding Congress limit the size of gun magazines now. -Mark

PSA as job market season intensifies: women apply for way less jobs than men, and often think they have to meet 100% of the listed qualifications to apply (not true). So, to all the women candidates: apply! Even if you think it's a reach...apply! #AcademicTwitter @womenalsoknow
