Another reference in our 100 g carbohydrate series.
4th in the series. It's age old and adopted by many organizations across the globe.
In this 1972 editorial, Dr Ronald A. Arky revisited the pre-insulin era and documented that carbohydrate intake was often limited to 100 g per day or less.
Historical context matters.
These numbers are not new.

Dr Robert Atkins acknowledged William Banting as an early pioneer, while building his own approach from later medical research.
Dr Eric Westman then learnt the clinical application of low-carb directly from Atkins and went on to study it scientifically at Duke University.
Prof Tim Noakes changed his long-held position after reading The New Atkins for a New You, written by Westman, Phinney and Volek.
Dr David Unwin’s low-carb journey began when one of his own patients achieved diabetes remission and guided him to an online low-carb community.
That is how knowledge progresses.
We read. We observe. We learn from patients, practitioners, researchers and those who came before us. We test ideas, refine them and pass them forward.
Nobody learns in isolation and acknowledging those who influenced us does not diminish our work.
It demonstrates honesty, humility and intellectual integrity.
But some claim that they learnt on their own. They refuse to ack that they also read blog posts and reference to learn newer concepts.
They read, understand, replicate it and suddenly it becomes a patent.
Be humble & thank from whom we learnt
I did this for a long time. I learnt from many and always thanked them in all my podcasts.

Low-carbohydrate nutrition for diabetes is not a new concept.
In 1927, Dr Elliott P. Joslin described a diet providing 100 g of carbohydrate per day for the average person with diabetes, while also recognising that carbohydrate tolerance varied among individuals.
Nearly a century later, the principle remains relevant: carbohydrate intake should be individualised according to metabolic health, glucose response and personal tolerance.

A big contribution by Aashish Pabari
The course includes a dedicated section titled The Low Carb Vegetarian Kitchen, featuring nearly three hours of practical learning created and presented by Aashish.
From vegetarian protein sources, eggs and fermented foods to bread substitutes, classic curries, protein-forward meals, desserts, sweets and drinks, this section brings vegetarian low-carb nutrition into the real kitchen.
It is practical, detailed and designed to help learners turn nutritional principles into enjoyable everyday meals.
Thank you, @aashishpabari for the tremendous effort behind this valuable section of the course.

The best part of reaching a global platform is seeing the whole team there. 🌍
Our Low Carb for Vegetarians course and faculty are now featured on the @NutritionNetwrk website.

I’m proud to share this moment with @jasmeet481 , @FastingCoach_MS , @DrSandhyaSK , @blazingbhat , @sandeepvarma15 , @PathreSidhesh & @aashishpabari
Each contributed knowledge, effort and a distinct perspective.
A special thanks to Hannah Warren @Radiantbeasting from the United States, whose expertise brought a valuable international perspective to our team and the course.
Taking our work to an international audience is exciting.
Seeing my colleagues recognised on that journey makes it even more meaningful.
When a team grows, everyone deserves to be seen.

I am delighted to announce the launch of the Vegetarian Low-Carbohydrate and Ketogenic Nutrition Course by Nutrition Network, in association with Metabolic Health India®.
Millions of people worldwide follow vegetarian diets, yet they are not immune to type 2 diabetes, obesity, fatty liver, hypertension and other metabolic disorders.
Many want to improve their metabolic health without giving up dietary choices that are deeply connected to their religion, culture, beliefs or personal values.
This course demonstrates how low-carbohydrate and ketogenic nutrition can be thoughtfully adapted to a vegetarian lifestyle, with particular attention to:
1) Adequate, high-quality protein
2) Nutritional quality and micronutrient adequacy
3) Practical vegetarian food choices
4) Cultural and individual preferences
5) Safe, sustainable and personalized implementation
A tremendous amount of collaborative work went into developing these comprehensive and up-to-date modules. My heartfelt appreciation goes to:
@jasmeet481 @FastingCoach_MS @DrSandhyaSK @blazingbhat @sandeepvarma15 @Radiantbeasting
@PathreSidhesh @aashishpabari
Together, we combined our knowledge, experience and diverse perspectives to create practical, scientifically informed and culturally relevant learning modules for healthcare and nutrition professionals worldwide.
This international collaboration represents another important step towards making evidence-informed metabolic health education more inclusive, culturally relevant and accessible.
I am thrilled to see Metabolic Health India® contributing to global professional education through Nutrition Network.
