fun fact doubling the amount of quote assets in a v2 style pool quadraples the price of the base asset if the LP holds 5% of tokens against USDC, injecting 5% of the mcap into the LP will 4x the mcap just 5% of mcap needed to create 300% of upnl the price is not real, ily

A lot of anger today on the TL re the @Kinetiq_xyz airdrop. Somewhat interesting timing, because @weremeow and myself have spent the better part of the last 2 months discussing alignment and tokens re @JupiterExchange. And @weremeow and @0xOmnia are the two most 'community'-first mavericks I know. Some personal thoughts. I often think of blockchain project ecosystems as nation states. For instance when America was founded, there was a social contract between the founding fathers who led the revolution and the revolutionaries who risked live and limb to make it happen. In the case of a TGE, its the creation of a social contract between the team and the first airdrop recipients. The pioneering generation (team and airdrop recipients) had to work together to create something based on trust. In crypto projects, you trust the team to use an early stage product and in return the team gives you a share of the ecosystem. Initial airdrops fairly done are always beautiful. The community shares in the fruits of their labor and the team commits to a future roadmap. The airdrop recipients can either choose to move on, or lock in together to build for the future. But airdrop two is always hellish. There simply is no good way of doing a second airdrop. Maybe @chameleon_jeff can figure something out. But literally nobody has done it. If I had to take a guess, it would be to disproportionately drop more to those who had staked day one and continued using the project - but this would simply lead to screams of unfairness. Because it is unfair. Its PvP between the pioneers and the immigrants - the immigrants being those who came after the project was successful. The immigrants didn't have to take the risk of project failure, or shitty smart contracts. You literally have a liquid trading token as a reference price or calculating your EV. You see nation states deal with this in a variety of ways. Immigrants have to pay more to reap the benefits of the existing infrastructure. Naturalisation processes to ensure immigrants have to actually put down roots to become citizens, rather than extract benefits and leave. Immigration is an unsolved problem - even in the real world today. The recurring question, asked by every visionary blockchain community founder today is how do I permissionlessly create long term alignment with long term people? Kinetiq's way of doing it is in my biased opinion as a friend and angel, brilliant, all things considered. I'd perhaps have gone further by extending the exercise window to say a year by paying a price, rather than creating a 10 day window (which pins price and may just lead to a lot of people not exercising). The reason being you have very few options when doing a second airdrop as a founder. These are the common ones I've seen. 1. Airdrop size similar to first airdrop. Farmers dump on the long-term holders (the most important group). Opportunist tourists gain at the expense of the risk-taking pioneers. Jupiter did this and the community suffered immensely for it. 2. Airdrop size smaller than first airdrop. Farmers dump (less), and incessantly bitch about how unfair everything is. Long-term holders still eat pain. 3. Extend points season forever. Cynically, probably the most effective but very bad for the soul. But you could theoretically just keep delaying points and people will keep using the protocol because of sunk cost. I personally think the @Kinetiq_xyz mechanism isn't bad at all, because a wide drop of zero cost basis tokens is untenable and frankly, retarded. If I designed an airdrop mechanism, I'd probably go for an incredibly heavy weight towards long-term stakers, perhaps even disqualify non-stakers altogether. Or here's some free tokens, stake and continue using the protocol to unlock (@shufflecom did something like this on their first airdrop). Would probably piss people off anyway. There will be a lot of anger at @0xOmnia on the timeline for this. But a lot of that anger will be from people that matter less. The real pain (from experience in the Jupiter seat) is placating the short-termers at the expense of the long-termers. Because those are the people that really matter. Obv usual disclaimer that nothing I say is representative of Jupiter / Kinetiq etc. Personal opinions etc.
km Today reminds me a lot of the response to Hyperliquid’s introduction of “L1 points” just before summer of ‘24. Hyperliquid was absolutely torched that day, by many of the biggest names in the industry. (Enjoy the comment section, a nice stroll down memory lane) Having been a user since May of 2023 and seeing they had just announced HyperBFT + HyperEVM, I knew what this meant: Hyperliquid may have started as a perpetuals DEX, but was being setup to cater for something an order of magnitude greater; an entire ecosystem and beyond. This may upset you, but @Kinetiq_xyz is no longer purely a liquid staking protocol. It is equally set up to cater for an exponentially greater outcome. We are at the bleeding edge of exporting Hyperliquid’s greatest product via @Markets_xyz to a global userbase who may have never heard of a blockchain, and now at the precipice of ushering in a new era of Hyperliquid’s general purpose capabilities via @Enter_Elysium to users and builders who are about to see what happens when you build an extremely performant general purpose layer on top of the most liquid, utilized financial application onchain. KNTQ is at the epicenter of every single Kinetiq product from staking, to Markets to Elysium, and always will be. This is further cemented by publicly ensuring any and all value that accrues from the entirety of Kinetiq’s product suite is directed solely to it. Back to work

There is a saying in Chinese - 富不过三代 Wealth does not last for 3 generations. What you're seeing is the third generation leadership in SG. It's pretty sad, but this policy is incredibly tone deaf and there lots of data showing monetary incentives don't work Lolrence.

GUM is our quest to build the identity and liquidity layer for crypto — bringing core user primitives onchain: identity, sequencing, multichain security, liquidity and assets. To achieve performance, usability, and decentralization, we are rethinking every part of the stack: the GUM Runtime, Omnichain Ledger, and distributed Core Services. We are still in private beta, with many core parts of the application and protocol rolling out over time. But the direction is clear: onchain UX with decentralized security and verification. the JUP token launched a little over two years ago. since then, we've been through catstanbul, catlumpur, multiple acquisitions, and the team grew from fewer than 20 people to close to 200 people at one point. one of the biggest challenges for me wasn't technical. it was changing my role. when the team was small, decisions happened with a handful of people in a room. we could debate, build, ship, and iterate within days. as the company grew, my days became almost entirely coordination. getting alignment across teams could take weeks. every morning there would be another list of decisions waiting. there was no longer any uninterrupted maker's time left on my calendar. (pg's essay on maker's schedule vs. manager's schedule captures this feeling perfectly.) for a long time, i didn't realize what was happening. the first time you're deciding whether to spend millions of dollars, you think carefully about every angle. after making enough decisions like that, they stop feeling extraordinary. your brain starts optimizing for speed. pattern recognition replaces deliberate thinking. eventually, you're no longer thinking deeply about every problem. you're just unblocking the next urgent thing. looking back, i think i spent a long period operating almost entirely on autopilot. or maybe zombie mode is the better description. nothing was wrong externally. eventually, i realized what was missing. i had stopped learning. that was probably the biggest problem. i wanted something that would force me to become a beginner again. i wanted to think deeply again. i wanted to build again. i wanted to struggle with problems i didn't already know how to solve. that became GUM. building from first principles again has been one of the most enjoyable experiences i've had in years. i find myself reading constantly, learning something new almost every day, and having technical discussions that leave me with more questions than answers. the team makes it even more fun. i'm lucky to work with engineers who have built products that facilitate billions in trading volume, security researchers who constantly challenge assumptions, and former L1 engineers who think about infrastructure from completely different perspectives. every conversation feels like an opportunity to learn. for the first time in a while, i'm uncomfortable again. and i think that's exactly where i want to be. GUM's private beta launches next monday, july 6. i'm excited to start learning from users again.

Metis V8: Solving The QE Drift Metis, the top router in DeFi with more than $2T+ in lifetime volume, has always been focused on the hardest problems in routing. And these days, it is not just about finding the best quote, it is about making sure what lands is as close to the price you were quoted as possible, aka The Quotation-Execution (QE) Drift. V8 is focused on solving that holistically from multiple dimensions in a systemic way: 1. Incentives: Slippage Penalties 2. Design: JIT Onchain Finalization 3. Infra: Sub-2 Slot Latency 4. Option: Rapid Quotation Mode Let us explain:

Since I took over @MeteoraAG last March, we have taken insider trading risk seriously and put real safeguards in place. Meteora is a permissionless platform. And especially over the last 12 months, we’ve invested tremendous energy into making it robust and reliable enough to ensure projects can launch without any support from us personally. As a result, we often find out about launches or integrations only after they happen. As just two examples, both $NYC and $YZY, two of the biggest launches on Meteora in the past year, happened without our prior knowledge. Our energy is fully focused on building the best technology possible to power launchpads and other platforms. Our focus is not to get involved with deployers themselves. We are laser focused on what we’re uniquely best at, and that’s building great infrastructure, products, and community around LPing. Yes, we’ve seen the Polymarket. To be honest, we were as surprised as you were. So we immediately did a detailed review of the situation. After review, we remain confident in the way we handle integrations, launches, and the standards we hold ourselves to as a team. It’s been almost exactly one year since me and @0xSoju took over Meteora. When we stepped in, things were rocky. But we knew we had inherited an amazing tech platform and an even more amazing community. Every day since then, we’ve put every ounce of energy into doing things the right way for the sake of our users and the greater DeFi ecosystem. I am deeply proud of our team and what we’ve been able to accomplish so far. And I promise you this: we’re going to keep doing the same goddamn thing every day going forward too.

early this year, i posted a question on whether we should continue the buyback and early this week i posted an update on how the Jupuary timeline would look like. both tweets got a lot of attention. reading the comments and feedback from users has been eye-opening. now, for this proposal and option 2 (if it passes), here’s what it addresses in my mind: first, team emissions. there’s been a persistent narrative about team selling. with this vote, there’s a real path to stopping all team on-chain emissions entirely. if there is any selling, it comes from the treasury fully visible, fully on-chain. transparency over speculation. second, Mercurial stakeholder vesting. the buyout structure is designed to create a counter buy pressure against any selling, ideally creating a net neutral effect on JUP. it’s a clean solution to a structural issue. third, ASR will continue to reward stakers for staking. this will be something that will reward long-term stakers. also, with January letterbox buyback standing at almost 28m JUP (annualised 336m JUP), the buyback maybe more than the emitting staking reward, obviously, price may fluctuate and market will move. fourth, JUP token utility within products. there are things already happening across our products and there are plans to push more forward. i don’t want to guarantee a timeline but it’s actively being worked on. lastly, something personal. running a public protocol with a token creates real pressure to balance product building with token health. building great products is necessary but not sufficient, the token itself needs to be managed thoughtfully. this proposal is about resetting the fundamentals: products that users love and token economics that are clean and simple. anyway good thing about this proposal is it really resets the energy. for me, that means great products and a token structure that’s easy for anyone to understand and believe in.
Today we’re bringing forward an important proposal to effectively bring net emissions to zero for the foreseeable future. This involves: 1. Pausing emissions from the Team Reserve indefinitely 2. Absorbing any team sales of vesting tokens in the Jupiter treasury 3. Postponing Jupuary indefinitely 4. Accelerating and offsetting Mercurial vesting The decision lies with the DAO. Frankly, this is the most dishonest perspective on the “claim your fees” spam that I’ve ever read. Everyone knows that the moment he does it, it will haunt him on for the rest of his tenure on this app. Every reply will be about making the price goes up. We intend to update our API policies to block apps that create fee pools for non-consenting users.
