Embedded in this is this childish view that everyone is owed a great quality of life, and even worse, any failure to receive that is the fault, not of nature, but of the selfish failings of other men.
And this false belief is then weaponized to justify the destruction of the beautiful and the good.
It is a rapid uprising of the weak and the resentful.

Businesses have to treat customers properly because their relationship is based on money. The free market provides the incentives. The law protects the contracts.
Wouldn't it be nice if the relationship between us and our government is based on something more than the shaky trust me bro social contract we hold with them currently.
What if our leaders were decided by the sum of the rational decision-making ability that is baked into all of us that is "how much will this thing cost me?"
Accountability would be a requisite for a government to hold power. They run out of money they are out. They fail to deliver on their promises, they are out.
What would this do to the whimsical charade that is our election process, which will always advantage candidates who promises to spend rather than those who promise to reign-in.
This proposal written up by my friend Brendan is a step in this direction. Mad enough it might just work.

Oh hell ya! Away for the weekend and come back to the release. I very much enjoyed meeting and having the discussion with @knutsvanholm where he stress tested the philosophical underpinnings of my book.
For those who are interested, democracy is the sacred cow underpinning modern western ideology - but democracy is flawed. The state of our communities is a result of democracy working as designed.
The idea is we can fix the flaws of democracy by leveraging the properties of money as both a communication medium and a language.

Don't mine with this piece of shit.
Introducing:
Stratum 2 Datum converter, now on by default on stratum servers for XBT mining.
Every block found on our XBT stratum carries the same coinbase layout as a DATUM gateway. You don't need to run a gateway to mine here; run one if you want to build your own templates.
If an update is pushed by the XBT devs that changes the layout for DATUM, then we will just update our stratum 2 datum converter.
Oh man the saltiness

I wrote an article about what really happened at Metaplanet, in plain English, and why so many of the influencers are quiet about it.
Any Kent Bitcoiners at a loose end tomorrow?

Got to get opinions outside of Bitcoin. Crypto friend of mine sent me this. You can be a degen crypto trader and still find value in the sanity of bitcoin
I've been thinking about something lately that I don't hear many people in Bitcoin talking about anymore, and the more I think about it, the stranger it seems.
When I first went down the Bitcoin rabbit hole, the thing that grabbed me wasn't the price. It wasn't ETFs, corporate treasury companies, Wall Street adoption or somebody's prediction of where Bitcoin would be in ten years. It was the idea that for the first time in my life I could actually own money that didn't require me to trust somebody else to hold it, move it, issue more of it or tell me whether the transaction was allowed.
That was the mindfuck.
Don't trust, verify.
Hold your own keys. Run your own node. Learn how the damn thing works. Understand what you're trusting and, more importantly, what you no longer have to trust.
Somewhere along the way though, I think a lot of us slowly stopped talking about that stuff. Bitcoin became more valuable, the institutions showed up, the products got easier, and our attention moved almost entirely to price, flows, ETFs, treasury companies and who's buying next.
None of those things are necessarily bad, but I keep coming back to one uncomfortable question.
What if Bitcoin never forgot what it was built for... but we did?

This is the first time I mostly hold BTC as an investment. For the NGU.
Before, it was the biggest no-brainer far beyond that.
It was the exit. The rock solid, unfuckable-with store of value. Separation of money from state. No third parties. Sovereignty. Digital truth in the form of a lean monetary ledger.
Those qualities have, in my opinion, eroded a lot. Slow capture. More centralization. More relativizing and fiatizing of what Bitcoin is for. And there are seemingly no brakes. Just cheering when the people who still wanted Bitcoin to be money, not data storage, lost.
Nodes decide, not miners. That used to be shared ground. Now it will get you ridiculed.
I do not see the current trajectory, governance capture, or mining concentration reversing, not with the current attitude and behavior from the suits, the influencers and the social layer in general. That is why my faith in the project today is much weaker than it used to be.
I am not calling the Blake2b chain Bitcoin.
I am glad the fork happened. It is a live attempt to reassert principles a lot of us thought were settled: monetary protocol, hostile to spam, nodes enforcing rules, miners do not get to veto by selling block space for JPEGs and other non-monetary use.
Whether it works at any meaningful scale is unknown. The energy around it is real. That resonates more with me than victory laps from people who treated BIP-110 as a joke and then celebrated when centralized hashpower blocked it.
My position:
I am not selling my BTC.
I am not telling anyone else to sell.
I intend to hold both sides for now.
Nobody should be buying or selling either side of this split yet. The dust has not settled, liquidity is a joke, and rushed claim tools are how you lose funds.
I urge everyone to make their own, well researched and responsible decisions.
Most of my attention and interest now goes to the chain that still treats spam as spam, instead of inviting more of it and saying the debate is settled.

In 1825, a rich Welsh industrialist bought an entire American town to prove that socialism could work.
He had the money, the buildings, the theory, and hundreds of eager followers waiting to move in.
Two years later, it was over. 🧵
Bitcoin, the longest chain might be in the process of fiat capture, but it's still a lot less fiat than fiat. The ultimate capitulation to fiat world is to sell it for fiat.

Wild, wild times.
A bitcoin-backed stablecoin has been in the works for years. For example:
Alpen Labs, founded in 2022, came out of stealth mode in 2024. They intend to enable a bitcoin-backed stablecoin called Bitcoin Dollar (BTD) on the bitcoin base layer ... by exploiting Taproot/tapscript and OP_RETURN. They're on Bitcoin SigNet now with plans to launch on mainnet.
IN LATE 2025 THEY DOCUMENTED THEIR INTENTION TO USE 100KB OP_RETURN. github.com/alpenlabs/bitcoin…
I wonder if Strategy is talking with them, or perhaps thinking of doing something similar on their own.
BIP110 would have hindered this.
Also:
Wences Casares (co-founding donor of both Brink and LocalHost Research who fund Core) is an angel investor in Alpen Labs. prnewswire.com/news-releases…
John Pfeffer (the other co-founding donor of Brink) is also an angel investor in Alpen Labs. theblock.co/post/287629/bitc…
Wences Casares is also known as "Bitcoin's Patient Zero". In early 2013 at a Private Retreat/Conference at the Ritz-Carlton in Tucson, Casares presented on Bitcoin to a gathering of tech/finance leaders. Attendees included Reid Hoffman, David Marcus, Marc Andreessen, Chris Dixon, Dick Costolo (Twitter), and others.
This spawned Blockstream, Xapo Bank and Lightspark, all significant funders of Core.
Blockstream has stated their desire to softfork Simplicity onto Bitcoin to support non-bitcoin assets, what they call Grantor Tokens.
And Lightspark recently announced their Grid Global Accounts, which supports stablecoins on the base layer.
A lot of this would have been hindered by BIP110.

Last week I posted that the motion to remove Luke Dashjr applied a political criterion to a role BIP 1 and BIP 2 explicitly define as administrative.
Mark Erhardt (murchandamus), Bitcoin Core contributor, BIP editor, and author of BIP 3, responded by blocking me.
No rebuttal. A block.
I am a security researcher and developer with over twenty years of experience. I have spent two years studying Bitcoin. For the last year I have dedicated myself full time to researching the governance situation, writing prolifically, building arguments from evidence, staying out of the rhetoric, and proposing real solutions.
This is what that gets you in the Bitcoin development environment in 2026. The people running the gate are not interested in the argument. They are interested in the gate.
Having this mindset is what's called "going down a dark path"
"Doesn't any exception to the rule mean that the rule doesn't exist."
