pico6502 works. An RP2350 in the 6502 socket, running Galaxians and Chess on a BBC Model B and BASIC on an Apple 1 Replica. The PIO timing bug that was stalling execution is fixed and the bus cycles are clean. Next: custom BBC drivers for the FDC, hard disk, Econet and sideways RAM/ROM. What it is: a drop-in CPU replacement built on the picoZ80 framework, so it brings the same ICE debug shell with it — you can halt the machine, inspect memory and single-step from a serial console while the host is running. What was wrong: the 6502 has tighter bus timing than the Z80, and the PIO state machines driving PHI2, R/W and the data bus were a few nanoseconds out of phase with the host. Reads worked, execution didn't. The fourth image is the LA5016 capture that finally showed it, with PHI0/PHI1/PHI2, SYNC, R/W and the bus lines side by side. What's next: the BBC side gets interesting once the CPU is trustworthy. Because the RP2350 sits between the software and the hardware it can present peripherals the machine never had, so the plan is virtual drivers for the 8271/1770 FDC, a hard disk, Econet and sideways RAM/ROM, then on to the Master 128 with its 65C12. After 4 years of effort, I'm happy to announce that one of the final secrets of the PS2 has been broken wide open! It's been a long process of decapping, optical dumping, and now at last a software solution. Thank you Libby for finding the exploit from our dirty optical dumps!

this is the longest breadboard jumper i've made so far
Day 5: I had some family interruptions this morning, but I made some more progress wiring up the control board. There aren't a lot of extra components outside of the modules, just these caps and a diode.

i'm starting to wire things up
i'm working on the control board now. i accidentally soldered the power connector wires backwards and it's driving me crazy but i'm too lazy to desolder it.. these little 3A bucks are so easy to use

The idea behind DMA is straightforward: instead of having the CPU repeatedly move data between a peripheral and memory, configure the DMA hardware to do the transfers for you. The difficult part is figuring out how all the pieces fit together. Learn more! bit.ly/4dzXk7N

I did a thing. First Article sample received. So many of us have memories of the 555-timer studying electrical engineering and PCBs, after seeing plushy oscilloscopes and plushy coaxial cables, I thought to myself why not a plushy 555. 😁

People are missing the point. The model isn’t routing like a traditional AutoRouter. The agent is using KiCad to do the routing. Very similar to how a person would do it... WITH the built-in tools of the EDA platform. That’s significant.
a lot of people (my angels) are asking: what does it mean that OpenAI can now layout and route PCBs with astra? am i cooked? (1/6)

That's not to mention that the "Computer Use" plugin cannot actually interact with the KiCad 10 interface. Whoops. This example is just one where it fails once it has to be able to see what is on-screen. Really makes me wonder how @OpenAI faked it in their demo.

oh, this'll be interesting--EM solvers right from FreeCAD
⚡️#FreeCAD #inthewild FreeCAD Microwave WB! New workbench for RF and microwave engineering! This is an audacious WIP that is typically seen in the ecosystem. Current solver that works is openEMS but several others are slated. Props to Mike Volokhov github.com/mishka-zz/freecad…
