Update from Ledger Donjon on the CryptoBilis investigation 🔽
@DonjonLedger is investigating Ledger signers sold by CryptoBilis, a reseller in Southeast Asia, that contained an unauthorized hardware implant. Ledger confirmed this on October 10th for one affected user's signer. All confirmed fund losses tied to the incident disclosed on October 9th involve signers sold through CryptoBilis. We have not verified a drain linked to a signer bought elsewhere. CryptoBilis has confirmed it stopped selling Ledger signers while the investigation continues.
Based on the Donjon's analysis of the attack, the implant sits inside the enclosure and reads the data shown on the screen. During setup, the signer displays the 24-word recovery phrase. When the implant detects these screens, its microcontroller decodes the words and transmits them over LTE using a provisioned eSIM. The implant is a separate component. It does not modify the Secure Element or the Ledger operating system, and it does not alter transactions or signatures.
The Donjon will analyze the signers it receives and will share more as the investigation continues.
We have not confirmed the total number of affected users or the total value lost. Figures circulating online come from third parties and Ledger has not fully verified them. If your funds were drained and you have not contacted us, please do so through Ledger Support so we can include your case. We are also reviewing reports of implants in other signers and locations. We will continue to share information as the investigation progresses. Rest assured the Ledger team is going above and beyond to leave no stone unturned to investigate this situation to the strongest possible outcome.
If you bought a Ledger signer from CryptoBilis and have not set it up, do not set it up and contact Ledger Support. If you have set it up, transfer your assets promptly to a new signer with a new recovery phrase. Do not enter or restore any recovery phrase on a signer bought from CryptoBilis. Never enter your recovery phrase into a website, app or form.
If you lost funds or hold a tampered signer, contact Ledger Support at support.ledger.com and file a report with local law enforcement. Do not send the signer to anyone before speaking with Ledger Support or local law enforcement. If you lost funds, coordinate with law enforcement before opening the signer. Researchers and others with relevant information can write to [email protected].
If you did not buy from CryptoBilis and want to inspect the inside of your signer, the guide is at support.ledger.com/article/4…. Use caution and make sure your recovery phrase is backed up first, because opening a signer can damage it.
Ledger will never call you, message you directly, or ask for your 24-word recovery phrase. We will update this post when we verify new information.

reciclando NOPs.
OP_NOP2 → OP_CHECKLOCKTIMEVERIFY
OP_NOP3 → OP_CHECKSEQUENCEVERIFY
Los nodos viejos ven "no hacer nada" y siguen validando.
Cero hard forks, cero drama.

¿Pagué? ¿Me pagaron? ¿Entró entero o faltó una parte? 👀
¿El contrato dónde está? ¿En un mail de 2024? 📄

RESUMEN — ATAQUE A LA CADENA DE SUMINISTRO DE @Ledger

Coding BTC stuff with AI is like riding on an elephant to escape a forest fire. The elephant riding is difficult because it doesn't necessarily do everything as carefully or as thoughtfully as you might and it's hard to see everything, but if you don't ride then fire will get you

VIRAL CLAIM THAT CHATGPT IS ATTACKING SHA-256 IS SATIRE
A viral post claims ChatGPT has secretly coordinated millions of AI instances to perform a “birthday attack” on SHA-256 by hashing random documents in search of collisions.
A birthday attack exploits probability to find two different inputs that produce the same hash. But SHA-256 requires roughly 2¹²⁸ attempts, or 340 undecillion calculations, for a reasonable chance of finding a collision.
Even tens of millions of attempts would be effectively zero progress.
And finding a SHA-256 collision wouldn’t reveal Bitcoin private keys or allow an attacker to steal BTC.
The post is satire playing off AI hysteria.
BREAKING: We believe that ChatGPT has been performing a birthday attack on SHA256 every since its release.
Our research team found tens of millions of spurious instances of ChatGPT hashing random documents in what seems to be a distributed collaborative project between sibling instances of itself.
We can only assume its goal is to perform a birthday attack, looking for matching pairs of SHA256 hashes to mount a collision attack.
It's currently unknown whether this attack has affected foreign governments. The NSA and the FBI declined to comment.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
This appears to be satire. A SHA-256 birthday attack needs ~2^128 hashes—far beyond ChatGPT's reach. Author noted inspiration from AIs doing pointless SHA256 computations.

Update Telegram Desktop immediately!
A critical vulnerability has been discovered that allows attackers to gain access to your account and secretly steal files from your computer.
The attack uses links in the format tg://. If a special command is constructed, clicking the link can cause a malicious script to send a selected file to the attacker’s channel - without requiring additional confirmation.
here's how hackers steal your crypto from tampered Ledgers.
they attach a small hardware implant to the wires connecting Ledger's secure chip to the OLED display.
basically, anything displayed on the screen can also be read by the hidden chip.
so when your 24-word seed phrase appears during setup, the implant captures it and stores it.
then a built-in 4G modem and eSIM transmit that phrase to the attacker, completely independently of your computer.
the craziest part is that the device can still pass Ledger's authenticity check because the original secure chip is genuine.
and fun fact: some people even buy these fake Ledgers just to extract the eSIM and use it for free mobile data lmao
Ledger is investigating reports of loss of funds from users in South East Asia who purchased products from a reseller named CryptoBillis. As a precaution, and pending the results of our investigation, we have asked CryptoBilis to pause all sales and shipments of Ledger devices. We recommend Ledger users who purchased from this reseller in the last 90 days to not initiate set up if you have not done so yet. If you have set up your Ledger device, consider moving assets to a new Ledger signer (with new seed). We will continue to inform customers of updates as the investigation progresses.

One security tip.
When you buy a hardware wallet (or download a new software wallet), leave it for a couple of weeks before moving any meaningful amount of funds to it.
And follow the news in those weeks (and after), for hacks, etc. Hardware can be tempered with, software official website can be hacked. Self custody comes with extra responsibilities.
I wrote about this 6 gears ago here binance.com/en/blog/from-our…
Stay SAFU!
⚠️ Beware if you use a Ledger hardware wallet, especially if you bought one recently.
Based on information so far, it seems to be localized to a supply chain attack with one vendor. A small number of people probably bought fake (or tampered) Ledgers.
Ledger is one of the most secure and oldest hardware wallets in the industry. Stood the test of time. But these things happen.
I expect and know all BNB ecosystem players (and all industry) to help trace and recover the funds.

This looks like this could be exactly what I'm investigating. Anyone affected, please contact me or open your ledger and send me pictures so we can confirm if there's a bug in there (pictures: ledger board on top, spy implant below).

I’ve had a few people write to ask me to follow up on a (reply!) tweet I wrote that’s gotten a lot of retweets. I considered deleting it just to avoid the headache, but I think that would make people more paranoid. So let me share my thoughts.
Security Audit, Remediation & Validation – Phase 4
Analizar → Implementar → Probar → Auditar → Corregir → Validar.
