We’ve captured the splitting image of Slh1: our work on an enzyme that splits collided ribosomes in E. coli is out on bioRxiv! Huge thanks to the @BeckmannLab, Burroughs, and Aravind for a great collaboration.

It’s official! MutS2 still doesn’t cut it. Congrats @Esth3rPark and @BeckmannLab!

Turns out MutS2 just doesn’t cut it ✂️ despite it having an SMR domain! Our latest collaboration with the @BeckmannLab characterizing the role of MutS2 in splitting stalled ribosomes in B. subtilis.

Lab’s first pre-print! We found that loss of EF-P and the ABCF-family ATPase YfmR is lethal to B. subtilis due to translation failures during early elongation. Great work Hye-Rim Hong, @cassidyprints and @letian_wu! #ribosomes biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

Veltri et al. demonstrate that Hel2, Syh1, and Smy2, - proteins known to be involved in mRNA decay following ribosome stalling - act through distinct pathways. Syh1/Smy2 appear to act in a redundancy role to elicit no-go decay, upon Hel2 impairment pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3589…

The cutting edge: in bacteria, ribosome stalling leads to collisions that recruit SmrB, cleaving mRNA and initiating ribosome rescue. Great collaboration with the amazing @BeckmannLab! Read the published version here:
