The big issue of RWAs.
Last week, I was at a conference about RWAs at the ETHMilan, and I wanted to share a good point made by one of the speakers.
The tokenization of OCA (Off-Chain Assets) is useless without liquidity.
So, from there, I thought, "Where can liquidity come from to enable billions of trading volumes of these assets"?
TradFi Institutions. But, there is an issue.
At another panel at the event called "DeFi for institutions," it was said that these entities won't enter the space due to the lack of regulations, and the risk implied with smart contracts makes them prefer a centralized approach.
So, at this point, it's difficult, at the moment, to imagine RWAs being traded on the blockchain as smart contracts will always be at risk of being hacked to be trusted.
Many new perspectives came to my mind after this:
• Auditors will become always more relevant in the industry.
• Using blockchain as a transparency (Chainlink proof of reserve for example) provider with centralized custodians is better than being fully decentralized (At the moment).
• Compliant protocols will become a new strong narrative. Having licenses will put you ahead of your competitors.
