So sad to read this, her books were a joy. I hope her family takes comfort in knowing her fans were legion and her body of work will forever be one of her legacies. Author #SophieKinsella dies aged 55 bbc.com/news/articles/ce91d2…

After every election I get more and more convinced that journalists who parachute into an election arena and try to report on whats happening on the ground, don’t know their backside from their front. How can you miss an electoral tsunami? This is possible only if you go with pre-conceived notions, and ask questions and hear stuff that reaffirms what you want to believe. They also play safe: Bihar and UP? Just stick to caste and try to sound profound about it. Or mention some sub-region and try to intellectualise it. Dont risk trying to see if the ground has shifted and something else might be at play with the voter, something that transcends the traditional political dynamic. What if you get it wrong? Well, you have been getting it wrong by analysing election mood by sticking to old political metrics. For instance, Bihar has a huge diaspora in rest of India. Once you travel out, old caste lines start breaking down. Plus you see how other places function and progress. Those influences are transmitted back home. Is this a factor influencing voting behaviour? I dont know but its certainly worth considering. And of course once the results are out, reporters try and act as if they know why it turned out the way it did. Bottom-line: political reporting that can capture the election accurately is dead. It is mostly useless, third-rate, agenda and bias driven, and pure trash (some honourable exceptions aside).

#WATCH | You are all by now familiar with the brutality and the dastardly manner in which 26 innocent lives were prematurely terminated at Pahalgam on 22nd April. When you combine those horrific scenes and the pain of the families that the nation witnessed with numerous other recent terrorist strikes on our armed forces and defenceless civilians, we knew that the time had arrived to make yet another compelling statement of our resolve as a nation. Operation Sindoor was conceptualized with a clear military aim to punish the perpetrators and planners of terror and to destroy their terror infrastructure. What I do not state here is the often-stated determination of India and its intolerance to terror: DGMO Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai @IAF_MCC @indiannavy @adgpi @DefenceMinIndia @SpokespersonMoD #IndianArmy #IndianAirForce #IndianNavy #IndianArmedForces #IndiaPakistan #IndiaPakistanTensions #OpeartionSindoor

.@MEAIndia announces that stoppage of firing & military action between India and Pakistan was worked out directly between the two countries. The Pak DGMO initiated the call this afternoon after which discussions took place and understanding reached. There is no decision to hold talks on any other issue at any other place. #OperationSindoor #IndiaFightsPropaganda

When you are attacked at your home, you don't ask for restraint and de-escalation. You respond to your enemy in the best possible way. That's what India should do with Pakistan. Enough with this nonsense of de-escalation and restraint.

A few months ago, we were all marvelling at Israel's Iron Dome, wondering whistfully when India would ever have something similar. Well, guess what? We not only had built something similar we actually had something way better. Just think of the size of our enemy and the area to be protected. The systems engineering to integrate multiple layers of air defense must have been insane!! And we did this all quietly, in India style. Without thumping our chests and tomtomming this to the world. Akashteer is going to be in great demand once this war is over. Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant!

If you really want to be a pacifist, go and talk to the terrorists. They will deal with you in the only language they know. Don't insult truly peace loving people with your own cheap theatrics.
