Yes, we're doing that with @young_urbanists & we said:
- Cycling cannot replace taxis or public transport, rather it complements.
- 1 tank of petrol equals 1 bike - but private sector & state need to subsidise.
- Climate. Equity. If it is safe to cycle, it's safe to walk.

This is remarkable, but I can’t help feeling frustrated. With the G20 Summit approaching, Johannesburg is suddenly being cleaned up and key infrastructure improved. It clearly shows that our government and municipalities can act when they want to — they just choose not

Over the coming years, this new design will change how this street is used.
If well kept by the City, the more pleasant environment for people will be good for business and property values.
Time will tell.

I can’t get enough of these “cycling in a striking city” videos.
Londoners love their bike lanes.
In the five years I have been commuting to work by bike, I have never seen it so busy.
Thank you @willnorman for making this possible!

Lilian Ngoyi Street is officially reopened.
Following the successful completion of Phase 1 of the rehabilitation project, the newly redesigned road between Loveday and End Street is now a one-way eastbound route. The project is a key step in creating a safer and more liveable inner-city. Please drive with caution as you adapt to the new layout. #JoburgRoads Read the full statement here: zurl.co/U4Pzz #JoburgServices #JoburgRoads ^LM

The epitome of efficiency: it's madness that cities still prioritise so much space for cars.

The Embankment cycleway (CS3) in London was purposefully built to be wider than was usual in order to future proof it.
Some said it would hardly be used.
Now there’s a decent case for widening it further.

In our quest to popularise car-free urban living, we focus on the big things like car-free streets and trams, but we also really need to remove the social stigma around shopping trolleys.

The City’s Urban Mobility Directorate and the Young Urbanists started a pilot along a section of Bree Street in the Cape Town CBD to improve safety for cyclists. This pilot uses safe-hit bollards and removable concrete slabs to create a barrier between cyclists and vehicles.

Massive impact, small steps. Next stop: Khayelitsha. 😉
Earlier today the City’s Mayor @Geordinhl together with Councillor @RobQuintas, and the @young_urbanists, tested the new Bree Street Safe Passage cycle lanes in the Cape Town central business district.

Cape Town suburbanites often think they bring in the bacon when it comes to rates, but they don't.
This high-rise in 3 Anchor Bay alone brings in 2.5x more revenue than 120 freestanding homes in Pinelands, while requiring
- 32x fewer roads
- 25x less land.
