Beyond thrilled to announce that I’ll be attending my top choice #psychiatry #research track residency at @nyugrossman!
Can’t wait to continue on this physician scientist journey in my favorite city 👩🔬👩⚕️🧠🏙️
Big thanks to all my mentors, family, and friends for getting me here.
Love my wonderful MSTP family, so proud of all of you and can’t wait to see what amazing things you’ll do in residency
Congratulations to our graduating MSTP students who have successfully matched today! We are very proud of their accomplishments and excited about their future endeavors! #Match2024 #MatchDay2024 #DoubleDocs #FuturePhysicians #MedTwitter

New manuscript is on BioRxiv! We (+@StephCragg) found that ChIs (via nAChRs) profoundly, continuously, and dynamically DEPRESS DA release, and dissociate cell body activity from striatal DA release, by preventing subsequent depolarisation of DA axons.

Folks. I need to correct myself. Read the details below in a great thread by Nic. Briefly, results in Fig.1 of our recent paper (mohebi et.al. eLife 2023) are confounded by photoswitching artifact. 1/n

While rewards have been thought to enable learning by boosting and lowering brain hormones, a new @Nature study by @NicTritsch found that learning happens all the time, with or without a reward, due to constant fluctuation in these chemicals.

Overall, we show that extracellular dopamine (DA) and acetylcholine (ACh) levels in the striatum of mice fluctuate with an intrinsic rhythm.
DA and ACh fluctuations are persistently anti-correlated, with a temporal relationship that is not dependent on inputs from the other!
Nicely paired with simultaneously published work from @blsabatini with similar findings of anti-correlated DA and ACh transients in vivo

A new @NeuroCellPress study found that CBD can hinder seizures in pediatric patients with treatment-resistant epilepsy by blocking a molecule that weakens brain signals meant to counter seizures.

I just want to make a few things clear:
The Holocaust happened.
Hitler was a demonic figure.
And instead of giving it a platform, our political leaders should be calling out and rejecting antisemitism wherever it hides.
Silence is complicity.

We would like to share something that really surprised us regarding the relationship between dopamine and the vigor of movements.
