China’s UnionPay credit card “is creating a backdoor for the Chinese Communist Party to access American payment data,” Job Creators Network CEO Alfredo Ortiz says. But the #CreditCardCompetitionAct would “slam that door shut” by requiring the @federalreserve to establish a list of payment networks operated by foreign entities or that pose national security risks and then bar them from being used by banks covered by the bill. #creditcard #swipefees @RogerMarshallMD @SenatorDurbin @SenPeterWelch @LanceGooden @RepZoeLofgren @JobCreatorsUSA @UnionPay_Intl @WashTimes tinyurl.com/bdhuszpw

Illinois consumers were set to start saving $500 million a year this summer under the state’s first-in-the-nation ban on #creditcard #swipefees on sales tax and tips. Instead, the ban has been delayed for a year and temporarily blocked by a federal judge while unfounded legal challenges are resolved. “$500 million may seem like pennies to credit card giants like @Visa and @Mastercard, but when people lose more of their money to credit card swipe fees they won’t be happy,” MPC Executive Committee member and NACS General Counsel @doug_Kantor says. @USOCC @GovPritzker @SenatorDurbin @ILRetail @NACSonline @MMRetailers tinyurl.com/5ppjnwd5

The reason behind #creditcard surcharges? Rising #swipfees that banks charge merchants, which have soared 80% since the pandemic. “When people see these surcharges, they think the local business is ripping them off,” MPC Executive Committee member and NACS General Counsel @doug_Kantor says. “They don’t understand what that business is going through and how their bottom lines are getting hit with these things.” @PennLive @NACSonline tinyurl.com/azce9kwf

The structure of Colorado legislation to ban #creditcard #swipefees on sales tax “makes the OCC rules irrelevant" because the bill regulates card networks rather than banks, MPC Executive Committee member and NACS General Counsel @doug_Kantor says. "The OCC's interpretation of federal banking law is wrong on law and policy. It's time to stand up for Main Street and its consumers rather than giant credit card companies and Wall Street banks." @NACSonline @GovofCO @AmerBanker @USOCC tinyurl.com/555w9fyk
