If only people spent as much time trying to make what people want as they do trying to make people want things they make.

Why do you software engineers write code that needs so much review? Why don't you guys write it properly the first time?
I don't think such sloppiness would be acceptable in other jobs.

Many of you know I admire the business Abhiraj has built, mainly because of positive externalities. This post stood out to me.
I compared it with the government’s PLFS 2025 data on urban workers. Per hour, the average UC partner earns more than the average worker in every urban category. A UC partner takes home about ₹315 an hour after all costs. An urban salaried graduate earns about ₹170 an hour, and a postgraduate about ₹235. The UC figure also includes travel time between jobs, while the PLFS hours for salaried workers do not include the commute. Exclude travel and UC hourly wage is probably unbeatable.
The average partner works about 22 hours a week and takes home ₹30,700 a month. The median urban salary is ₹18,000, for about 50 hours of work a week. The top 20% of partners take home ₹49,000 a month, which is more than the average urban graduate earns. Don’t come at me, but I find this impressive.
The income level is the part I care about most. A common cutoff for a middle class household in India is ₹5 lakh a year. The top 20% of partners clear it on their own, and many more probably cross it once there is a second earner at home. At these incomes they pay no income tax under the new regime. This is where India’s consuming class begins.
A full-time Zomato rider takes home about ₹80 an hour after fuel and vehicle costs, so a UC partner earns about four times as much per hour. UC also covers every active partner with group insurance, including life cover of up to ₹10 lakh. That's safety. More could be done here and i am sure (and hope) more will be done but That is not nothing.
You can make many arguments about gig work. But 50,000 urban jobs are still 50,000 urban jobs. I will stop now but I think this is something that needed to be said. These UC fellows can be too humble by half.
Q2 FY27 was another strong quarter for us at Urban Company.
Our consolidated NTV has now grown ~40% YoY for three straight quarters, well ahead of our pre-listing trend. At the same time, our core business continues to improve its margins YoY, even as we invest aggressively in InstaHelp.
Some highlights from our Q2 results:
• Consolidated NTV up 39% YoY to ₹1,432 Cr
• Net Revenue up 41% YoY to ₹537 Cr
• Orders delivered up 103% YoY to 15.1 million
• Adjusted EBITDA (Ex InstaHelp) up 213% YoY to ₹30 Cr
• Consolidated Adjusted EBITDA of ₹(144) Cr, reflecting a deliberate ₹(174) Cr investment in InstaHelp
Business highlights:
• India Consumer Services (Ex InstaHelp): NTV up 26% YoY, Adjusted EBITDA margin up 110 bps YoY to 3.5%. Tier 2 cities are growing ~37% and emerging as a second growth engine.
• International: NTV up 66% YoY, margins up 190 bps YoY to 2.0%
• Native: NTV up 35% YoY, loss margin narrowed by 220 bps, on track for a strong festive season
• InstaHelp: Orders up 63% QoQ to 6.23 million, loss per order down ~19% QoQ as the network densifies
What I'm proudest of: Average monthly in-hand earnings for our service professionals rose ~10% to ₹30,708 in H1, with the top 5% earning ₹56,731.
Long runway ahead. Grateful to our team, partners and customers.
