Personal websites are getting more playful. Over the last few days, I've been exploring a new design for my home page. It was based on an idea I had last year but never got round to completing. Today I pushed it to prod.
gonna be closing regs around noon
Now that the noise around config is dying down, thought I would announce the next edition of design demo nights is happening next Friday on 23rd Oct.
Designers, show us what you’ve been building luma.com/vx1nju6x
Beautiful writing by @FinitePhysicist 🔥

Idk why @figma doesnt start selling merch via store.figma.com/ directly in India.
💯 agree with this assessment
Tell me you don't understand statistics without telling me you don't understand statistics.
This chart shows the share of today’s infrastructure “built after 2014.” But if an economy grows ~6% a year, about half of everything it has will always have been built in the last 12 years.
Take power. From 2002 to 2014, capacity went from ~105 GW to 249 GW, about 7.5% a year. From 2014 to 2026 it went from 249 to 540 GW, about 6.7% a year. The “54% built after 2014” headline hides slower growth than the decade before.
Coal went from 565 to 1,000 MT, about 4.9% a year, roughly the same pace as the decade before. Transmission went from 2.9 to 5.0 lakh ckm, about 4.7% a year. Gas pipelines show the same pattern. These are trend lines, not breakthroughs.
Solar isn't admissible here as module prices fell ~90% worldwide in the same period.

I’ve been to Art of Play many times for magic shows, and Molly the purely mechanical bird is really cool. Here’s a video I shot last year. I can see why Kelly Clarkson would want to buy it.
But also, Kelly Clarkson + Art of Play’s Molly is so random a collision that I’m upgrading my belief in the simulation hypothesis

Do you think we should trust them to make 120km more of flyovers?

a post on the idea of "reputation". tried writing it a few times as an abstract thing and I hated it, so instead I just wrote about my dad.
Every week someone gets called out for copying others’ work without a second thought. @annaluciacodes writes about finding her art copied into a “tool” and how to copy someone’s work the right way.

There's been a lot of "design is dead" talk this year.
So at @DesignUpConf last week, @rasagy and I built our workshop around a better question: how does a designer actually navigate this landscape? and what value does a designer still bring to the table?
This was our fourth beginner-level workshop this year, and we made this one more interactive.
In the first half, everyone reflected on their own design practice and heard from others about where AI could amplify, augment or automate their work.
