Tech is transforming how fans experience the world’s biggest sporting events.
From the Olympics to the PGA, delivering exceptional experiences at massive scale requires clear outcomes, relentless testing, seamless technology, and trust across teams.
If they can deliver at this scale, what might be possible for business?
That was the focus of a standout session at Gartner IT Symposium/Xpo 2026. The discussion was moderated by three-time Olympian Simone Manuel who was joined by Wes Gavins (LA28), Salim Kouidri (T-Mobile) and Kevin Scott (PGA of America).

Exceptional experiences don’t happen by accident.
They’re built around clear outcomes, tested relentlessly, and delivered by teams working toward a common goal.
What’s one outcome your organization cannot afford to miss?

The conversation reinforced four lessons for CIOs and business leaders:
• Start with the outcomes you can’t afford to miss
• Test, test, and test again
• Make technology seamless
• Build preparation and trust across teams
I’ve seen these principles firsthand at the Ryder Cup and Las Vegas Grand Prix with T-Mobile for Business, where connectivity supports everything from ticketing and point-of-sale systems to keeping fans connected to the action.

And looking ahead, it’s not just about faster networks.
🤖 As physical AI brings more robots, drones and connected machines into the real world, latency and availability become increasingly important.
A fascinating glimpse of where 5G Advanced and eventually 6G could take us.

Resilience when it matters.
From AI helping networks adapt during Hurricane Helene, to satellite messaging during a storm in Hawaii, and anticipating crowd surges at the FIFA World Cup.
Sean also highlighted @T_Priority, which uses 5G network slicing to prioritise critical first responder communications 👇

📡 What does a future-ready network actually look like?
At #GartnerIT, Shawn Settar from @TMobileBusiness explained how AI is helping networks move beyond reacting to problems, towards anticipating them.
And some of the real-world examples were fascinating. 👇

Spent a good chunk of the week at this booth. The Edge Control demo is my kind of thing. Crunch the factory data right there on the floor instead of shipping it off and waiting. There’s a lot happening on the ground at #GartnerIT 👀
At the @TMobileBusiness Innovation Hub, the demos are showing how very different industries are tackling very different operational challenges.
🏥 Healthcare: connectivity, resiliency and continuity of care
🛍️ Retail: hyper-connected stores and secure, scalable connectivity
🏦 Financial services: compliance, business continuity and branch connectivity
🚨 Public sector: network slicing, T-Priority and T-Satellite
🏭 Manufacturing: worker connectivity, remote capabilities and Edge Control
Different sectors, but a lot of the same bigger questions around how connectivity, security and infrastructure need to work together as operations become more connected.
@BevEve + @Chels_LA are on the ground exploring it all 📸

The key takeaway? Physical AI is about connecting cameras, sensors, machines, and operational systems so they can sense, decide, and act.
That requires intelligence across three layers:
1️⃣ Device: Makes time-sensitive decisions locally.
2️⃣ Edge: Coordinates robots, people, and operational systems.
3️⃣ Cloud: Aggregates data to improve models and enterprise-wide insights.
The network connects all three, routing data and workloads to where they perform best.

AI doing one task at a time is already starting to feel old 👀
@googlecloud has announced Gemini 4 Argon, built for longer, multi-step work across areas like coding, enterprise knowledge and cybersecurity.
The big shift? Less “what can AI answer?” and more “what work can we trust it to do?”

Spent this afternoon twenty feet from @garyvee at the @TMobileBusiness session at Gartner IT Symposium/Xpo in Orlando. Thirty minutes, a few hundred CIOs, and the least corporate keynote I've heard at a carrier event. A short thread on what he said and why I owe the guy.
