So what have I learnt about #misinformation research? I tried to condense it into a list of the 5 biggest challenges the field faces. Second story in my package of stories about misinformation research is up here (and thread to come): science.org/content/article/…

Misleading press coverage had *50x* the impact of COVID "misinfo." From highly editorialized headlines to misleading quotes, it's much harder to address or even study this complex set of problems. Glad to see this work starting to get the attention it deserves.

Good article. Misinformation is often defined poorly in academic research, either 1) as only blatantly false articles, or 2) by source, regardless of accuracy But much of what’s misleading is from normally-fine sources, and often is technically true but missing key context

New in @sciam : Is misinformation *really* a problem? Our take: Exposure to "fake news" is rare, but misinformedness is common- b/c of misleading claims from elites & mainstream news. Solutions must take this into account! w @DG_Rand scientificamerican.com/artic… 1/N

Is Russian online disinformation a significant threat to American democracy? Are Dave Rubin and Tim Pool masterful manipulators of public opinion? What do Noam Chomsky and Tucker Carlson have in common? Thoughts: conspicuouscognition.com/p/t…

Although outright COVID-19 vaccine misinformation reduced vaccination intentions, factually-true "vaccine-skeptical" content that was unflagged by fact checkers on Facebook had a 46x greater impact on vax intentions, finds @_JenAllen @duncanjwatts @DG_Rand doi.org/10.1126/science.adk3…

No, the @NFL/ @dallascowboys are not using facial recognition software to monitor fans. The misinformation is being shared by thousands. While the real info from @NFLprguy got less traction. I talked to @_JenAllen about false news becoming more prevalent. @FOX4
