📣 NEW RELEASE! #️⃣7️⃣7️⃣7️⃣7️⃣
Fixer v3.94 introduces parallel runner made by @_Codito_ as default runner, at the same time unmarking it as experimental 🥳! From now on, your projects will be analysed faster even without explicit parallel config 🏃🏻💨.

It's happening! Parallel runner, my greatest #OSS / #PHPCSFixer contribution is going to be the default runner in Fixer, available without the need to configure it in the config file explicitly 🥳! Niiiiiiiiiiiice ❤️🔥.

I had the please to speak with @edd_mann about event sourcing lessons learned from 10 years of production and a bunch of related patterns and concerns that have surrounded this architectural choice.
I'm glad that we were able to cover a lot of non-introductory material here.
really excited to finally get this episode published 🎉
Ep. 17: Event Sourcing with Shawn McCool
@ShawnMcCool shares how event sourcing fundamentally changed the way he thinks about modeling software systems. if you've ever felt stuck in the "way we've always done it" mindset, this one's for you 👇
🎧 compiledconversations.com/17…
we trace shawn's journey from discovering domain events while working on laravel.io back in 2012, through creating Event Sourcery, to now building payment processing systems. what started as curiosity about DDD turned into a completely different approach to building software.
the core insight: events aren't just for messaging or streaming - they become the actual source of your model state. we dig into how this differs from event-driven architectures and why capturing intent matters more than capturing data changes.
shawn shares a practical pattern that eliminates entire classes of versioning and data retention headaches: design your aggregates to exhaust quickly. at his current company, event streams naturally terminate within 30 minutes. no long-lived aggregates means no painful migrations, no GDPR nightmares.
we also explore the relationship between event sourcing and CQRS, testing strategies, and why DDD isn't really a methodology - it's a pursuit of understanding your domain.

In terms of volumes AND codebase, you only want to mount it for local development. In that case, your build target should skip app build stage (like Composer install) because you're going to overwrite it anyway. But in general, Docker image _should_ contain your codebase. – at Radom, Polska

I disagree. PHP isn't actually slow...at least not compared to other scripting languages. The "PHP is slow" take mostly comes from really old benchmarks or bad setups.
It's true that it's not asynchronous by default, but that's also by design and there are upsides to that simplicity. Besides, if you do need async, the ecosystem has you covered: event-loop solutions like ReactPHP and AMPHP, or server-level tools like Swoole, RoadRunner, and FrankenPHP (which is now part of the official PHP org BTW) make async execution totally possible.
As for "no standard," that's just not accurate anymore. PHP has PSRs (PHP Standard Recommendations) that cover things like autoloading, logging, HTTP messages, caching, event dispatching, and more, and nearly every modern framework follows them.
A lot has improved with PHP over the years. But unfortunately, the old stigma still sticks because many people base their opinions on outdated information or what they were taught years ago.

php has gained a reputation for being slow, and the team doesn't seem to care about that. It is not asynchronous by default. The nomenclature is confusing, it seems that there is still no standard. These things drive people away and they don't even try to get to know it.

It's been about a year since my team has fully adopted all the AI coding tools (Cursor, Claude Code)
And day to day I am feeling the added cruft in the code base. Unit tests are not catching regressions. Unneeded mocking, comments, are left in between. More refactoring is needed to add new features.
I find myself sitting down and rewriting files to ensure completeness, correctness, and ease for future developers more than I ever have before.

Really interesting change is going to land in #PHPCSFixer in the (hopefully) near future 🥰! This not only means you will be able to use FQCNs to configure Fixer rules, but it will also unlock using 3rd party fixers like those from Easy Coding Standard, that use FQCN as name 🤩.

📣 This JUST got merged in #PHP a few minutes ago!
It is currently challenging to deal with recursion in anonymous functions. Not anymore in PHP 8.5: the "Closure::getCurrent()" method fetches the current closure you're in 🚀

I wrote an article about #ASDF - multiple runtime version manager, and how you can use it for developing #PHP apps that require different versions of the language. It serves me well as a fallback when #Docker runtime is not available 😊.

💡 I initially created this library to help out a friend of mine. 2 years later, I still have yet to use it in one of my own projects.
It's really cool to see that it's solved a seemingly "tiny" (but not so tiny) problem thousands of developers have had!
