For FAR too long, for-profit schools have engaged in predatory targeting of Black and Latino/a students.
These schools trap borrowers with exorbitant student debt loads in exchange for programs of 𝑑𝑢𝑏𝑖𝑜𝑢𝑠 quality.

Ths is all happening because @usedgov refused for years to step in.
@usedgov attempted to regulate campus banking in 2015, but it’s clear that those rules have failed.
@usedgov had a chance to go back to the drawing board—but instead, it passed.

More than 7 million qualifying #borrowers may not take the steps to get student debt relief, although most people with #studentdebt will be eligible for some forgiveness.
The bottom line is, if you have student debt you should apply. Don't just assume that you are ineligible!

Student loan hack: not only are standard Fed loans eligible, but so are parent PLUS loans.
That means a family could 2x or 3x their loan cancellation 💸
Ex: if a parent making <$125k took out a PLUS loan for their kid and got a Pell grant themselves, they EACH get $20k cancelled
So rather than not working at 10PM like I am not working, @aoc is teaching people a new student loan hack for families who took out loans for kids. Live on IG right now.

LOL, they could have made cancellation automatic and saved all of this money, but instead they need to spend $100 million to exclude ~5% of people and probably end up excluding another ~25% of the poorest and most vulnerable in the process.
Missed this earlier:
Ed Dept disclosed in submission to OMB it expects the cost of building out the form for student debt relief, processing applications & related comms work will cost about $100M/yr.

.@POTUS must not turn the student loan system back on until delivering on his promise to #CancelStudentDebt for every single eligible borrower.
Better yet, don't turn it back on until you fix the entire system. Extend the payment pause and #CancelMoreStudentDebt.
