They opened the shop and froze.
Over $300,000 in Pokémon, Magic: one Piece, and Lorcana
Stolen out overnight
This wasn’t some random smash-and-grab. It was a surgical hit on one of the rare stores that still tries to play fair.
They’re not the typical TCG shop. When new sets drop, they sell at (or just barely over) MSRP. When stock runs out, they’re forced to buy back at market rates just to keep product on the shelves. That’s why their prices shift. They pay collectors 60–90% of market for singles, graded cards, and sealed. They trade at 70–100%. They’re not out here price-gouging people. They’re just trying to keep the lights on.
Every single night they lock away every graded card over $500 and all their vintage sealed. Double-paned windows. Steel doors. Cameras covering every angle. Glass and motion sensors throughout the store. The only window the thieves managed to get through was so narrow only a skinny person could squeeze in.
None of it mattered.
Here’s the timeline that should piss you off:
•1:59am: sensor trips (seconds after they crawled through the window)
•2:00am: alarm starts blaring
•2:01am: first call to the owner (who was asleep)
•2:02am: second call attempt
•2:04am: SimpliSafe finally calls to dispatch police
•2:06:35am: suspects walk out
•2:06:45am: police arrive
Once the cops were actually called, they got there in under three minutes.
The alarm system did its job. The people behind the system did not.
SimpliSafe won’t even tell them how long they’re allowed to wait before the second call. When the owner asked for the records, they hung up. Twice.
They did almost everything right.
And they still got cleaned out.
What would they change? Bars on the windows. Roll-down metal shutters. No more trusting that “professional” monitoring is actually professional.
To every other TCG store out there:
Learn. Adapt. Grow.
Because if it can happen to the store that does things the right way… it can happen to you.

Here's a video list for people who haven't been to China and people who want to come again for more.
A Chinese photographer spent 5 years, visited 220 cities, and captured all of this.
The place name is in the upper left.

this was the dream... the gold standard... the magical number that i imagined would set everything right
just hit $10k mrr after 4+ years of indiehacking
all started from being inspired by @levelsio posts to building my first ever product in 2021
from posting my first internet dollar screenshots (marketing :p) to trying all the shady stuff... took mammoth of an effort
from days of no sleep to months of no shipping at all... this was a lot of emotions
when someone used to ask me what i wanted to do 2022 me would proudly say i want to build a bootstrapped saas product and grow it to $5k mrr
i went through different ideas, one week builds, producthunt launches and this was the one that finally stuck
lol obviously this doesnt feel enough anymore coz ai costs and churn but man do i see a path now
shoutout to @jackfriks @marclou @_MaxBlade @tibo_maker @d4m1n @saguppa @pramodk73 for having the impact you guys had in unimaginable ways... might not realise what putting your journey out does to minds
wouldnt be possible a tiny bit without @Pushpit07
grateful. see you at $20k 🫡

I was always too scared to share this video.
Filmed it in Nov 2022, depressed and lonely after my 9-5.
4 years later I have:
> Real purpose
> $20k/month SaaS
> The body I always wanted
> A great life in SE Asia 🇹🇭🇻🇳
If I did it, you can too.

People happily invest in celebrities' lives.
They support them, they cheer for them, they reshare their posts. Even though these celebrities don't even know they exist
Every day, thousands of strangers repost me. I'm grateful for every one of them. But I always wonder if those same people would do the same for their friends.
We scream for celebrities who'll never know we exist, but we're reluctant to reshare when our mate launches a business or posts their first TikTok.
Why is that?

I have been thinking about this a lot.
I think for a great many of engineers, the ones who did it because they loved it only to discover that money was in fact at the end of the rainbow found both the journey and the destination satisfying. In fact, I think I can argue with authority that the destination was only satisfying as the journey was difficult. The hard-fought evenings spent toiling away on an idea and codebase that slowly gives way to your vision was an incredible experience.
The group of people that fell into this category of hard-fought journey and destination we will call them tinkerers. One thing tinkerers have always hated is the already known problems. The journey is clear as day. The obstacles minor inconveniences. Its purely a matter of typing the solution into the terminal. This is also why I think so many of this group goes out and does open source, or starts companies. Work largely falls into this category with few exceptions.
From this reason is why I largely find UI work soul sucking. I know the solution, its a matter of just looking up the details and putting it into my editor. yawn. CSS, flex box this, grid that, put the tailwind classes in the bag.
To me, the LLM software world is with little to no journey and discovery. Its more of simply taking my high level idea and just formulating it into testable, atomic chunks that can be verified. I have traded my favorite part, discovery and raw creation, with itemized list of TODOs and patience and "No Mistakes."
To this, every morning from 6 to 9 I simply just hand code every thin. even UI things. It is because I want journey and discovery and raw creation. Maybe one day comes and its just so futile that I stop this. But for now, I still see such great value in this. I see such better thought through products. Because slowing down and truly thinking through everything. The architecture, the design, everything is an expression of discovery and creation. And I love it.
I am sure there will come a day, maybe even in the next 6 months where I change my mind. For now, I pursue the love of the game intentionally.
I do also believe that there exists people who get the same joy I got from building with tears and sweat by prompting LLMs. I am positive of it. I just don't understand how. But people love UI work. I also don't understand that.
Programming was deeply satisfying work to me. Work for hours/days before getting the payoff of the code working well on your machine. I’m feeling so much friction now to open the editor and do this kind of task by hand, but also increasingly depressed with the nature of work in an AI assisted dev workflow. Back and forth prompting seems to eat at my soul. Need to find a balance that brings back some of the toil.

i have no desire to be rich so i can buy a rolex or a lamborghini.
i want to be rich so i can control my time and go to the gym at 3pm on a monday.
sit at a cafe and relax for an hour on a rainy afternoon.
so i can cook meals at home with fresh ingredients.
spend on my family and friends without worrying about a budget.
that's my idea of a rich life, not the fake consumerist idea shoved down my throat.
