We’ve generated a synapse-resolution map of an insect brain, includes 3016 neurons and half a million synaptic sites! Out today in Science science.org/doi/10.1126/scie…
Summary below and in @bpedigod’s thread. @ZlaticLab, @albertcardona, @neuro_data, Carey Priebe, and many others
We are looking for a motivated and meticulous laboratory research scientist (LRS) to help with a comprehensive neuronal inactivation screen. This is a great opportunity to build experience in the growing field of experimental connectomics. Apply by 2 May!

Looking for an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of neuroscience and connectomics? We are hiring a Connectomics Data Analysis Engineer. Expect to implement the latest machine learning methods for connectomics and develop your own! crick.wd3.myworkdayjobs.com/…
Looking for a PhD position in comparative connectomics? Apply for a joint-supervised position, with myself and @neuroluci.
The aim is to understand how circuits evolve by comparing whole-brain connectomes of fruit fly species. Apply for Project #2 here:

We're using AI to map circuitry across entire brains!
Beautiful work by @MohintaSamia has converted existing training data to match our samples. This allows us to trace neurons instantly, in what used to take years of painstaking work

I am excited to share our lab's first publication!
An insight article @eLife by Anna Seggewisse. Read it here, it is open-source doi.org/10.7554/eLife.99804
First electron microscopy image from the lab! 🎉
You are seeing hundreds of individual neurons from the brain of a fruit fly larva.
Great work from Anna Seggewisse and Chris Peddie, @EM_STP
We have an opening for a postdoctoral clinical fellow. Candidates should have a PhD + clinical degree (medical, veterinary, etc.) with previous clinical post. Help us study how genes related to psychiatric disorders affect brain wiring and social behaviour!
Apply by 30 April...
Feel free to contact me directly to discuss projects.

What does it take to map a connectome? I was interviewed on @BBC Unexpected Elements, listen in to find out! Starts at the 15 minute mark

We have an open postdoc position! Apply here: crick.wd3.myworkdayjobs.com/…
Following up on the first brain map of an insect brain (science.org/doi/10.1126/scie…), we will be using comparative connectomics to investigate how wiring changes affect social behaviour in the fruit fly larva.
Come help us analyse how synapse-resolution circuitry changes across an entire brain after environmental or genetic manipulation.
@TheCrick provides a supportive environment for postdocs, providing the perfect launchpad for your career!

Automated behavioural analysis using machine learning is great, but still needs lots of effort to curate training data. What if a computer could generate that data for you? Say hello to replicAnt nature.com/articles/s41467-0… #OpenSource

Excited to share the first preprint from my lab. A connectome guided effort spanning modeling, behavior and functional imaging that led to uncovering fundamental circuit mechanisms for implementing halting in flies. doi.org/10.1101/2023.09.25.5…

We've updated our preprint on finding one-to-one mappings of DNN neurons and real visual neurons of fruit fly.
--> 2x silenced data with new LC31 neuron type
--> more LC neural recordings
--> FlyWire connectome
--> knockout training simulations
Enjoy!

Excited to share a new manuscript!
Deep nets are great at predicting visual neurons. Yet, they are unable to tell us which artificial neuron directly corresponds to a biological neuron… until now!

(yes, that is indeed a fictive female fly, good guess!)
We're looking for a sandwich student for 2024. Apply by 5 October!
The lab studies whole-brain neural circuitry underlying social behaviours, using the fruit fly larva as a model. For this project, we will explore the role of autism-related genes
