New from me @Spectrum! After a 2020 study linked epidurals &autism, many worried that pregnant people would be scared off epidurals. I wanted to see if that actually happened. What I found was murkier than that: an example of a field trying to self-correct spectrumnews.org/news/a-ques…

"Caution needed", indeed. Simple correlational fishing expeditions are not particularly impressive. I thought that we had put a nail in this coffin publishing the largest sibling controlled study to date. I highly doubt oxytocin would change any of this. ajog.org/article/S0002-9378(…
An interesting study out in JAMA on the association between Autism Spectrum Disorder&epidural&/or oxytocin. They found a 20% increase in ASD assoc with EDB use and a 30% increase with both EDB&oxytocin combined, but not with oxytocin alone. Caution needed. jamanetwork.com/journals/jam…

I signed this (alums can). I hope @nytimes can come to see that sports jobs are union jobs.
The @nytimes’s decision to replace our Sports section with nonunion employees sets a troubling precedent. More than 1,000 @NYTimesGuild, @WirecutterUnion + @NYTGuildTech members signed a petition demanding that Times management stop violating our contract and respect union work.

This is objectively just very very good ❤️
After nearly 800 days without a contract, ~1,000 @NYTimesGuild members voted more than 99 percent in favor to ratify a new 5-year deal that includes an immediate $65,000 salary floor, raises for every member, hybrid work options, a ban on NDAs and new investments in local news.

US study: #Autistic young adults in states without waivers more likely to lose #Medicaid. 1 in 4 autistic teens disenroll at 18; only half regain coverage. Waivers reduce risk. Diagnosis, not income, should determine eligibility. More research needed.
Autistic people should be able to access Medicaid based on their diagnosis, rather than their income level, which often changes, says Deborah Spitalnik. By @MaaishaO. bit.ly/3qfyEMj bit.ly/42dyyC3

Happy no-one-gets-back-to-you-season to all who celebrate!
I know it's summer when I email 20 researchers for comment on a study and 9 aren't available, 8 don't respond, 2 have out-of-office autoreplies and 1 says yes. (For context I usually need to email 5 people, maybe 6 or 7, to get 2 yeses.)
