We are still on scene of a 2nd alarm fire in Barrhaven. Multiple 9-1-1 calls reported smoke & flames coming from a single family home in the 0-100 block of Sutcliffe Ter. Due to the amount of 9-1-1 calls a “working fire” was declared while trucks were responding to the call to dispatch additional resources to the scene. Firefighters arrived 4min after getting the call and confirmed the garage was fully engulfed in smoke and flames and had spread to the neighbour’s home. Firefighters began an aggressive attack and set up an aerial ladder to flow water from above. At 14:09, while fighting the fire from the inside, there was a partial roof collapse which landed on a Firefighter. The injured Firefighter was able to self extricate from the fire with the assistance of his crew and has been transported to hospital. The home owners all exited safely and notified Firefighters of five family pets inside. Firefighters were able to rescue all five pets (three dogs, a cat and a rabbit) from the fire. Oxygen was given to multiple pets. At 14:25, Firefighters completed searching the structure and it was confirmed to other occupants were inside. The fire that spread to the neighbour’s house was declared under control at 14:32. The fire in the main structure was declared under control at 14:37. A family of four will be displaced. An @OttFire investigator has been dispatched to the scene. #OttNews

Firefighters contained a main floor laundry room fire in the 0-100 block of San Mateo Dr in Barrhaven this afternoon. At approx. 16:49, an occupant from a two-storey single family home called 9-1-1 reporting there was a fire in their main floor laundry room. Firefighters arrived 4min after being dispatched and confirmed smoke coming from the front of the home. The occupants reported that everyone exited the home safely. Firefighters quickly advanced a hose line through the front door and located the fire. A secondary crew began searching the home for any occupants. Firefighters extinguished the fire and had it under control at 17:08, 14min after arriving on scene. At 17:12, Firefighters completed searching the entire home and confirmed no other occupants were inside. Firefighters performed salvage operations to protect the owner's belongings from the water run off going into the basement. High pressurized fans were used to ventilate the residual smoke out of the home. The breaker to the laundry room was isolated and an @OttFire Investigator has been dispatched to the scene. No reported injuries. #OttNews
