It this the idea? Is this the best we can do to protect our pedestrians?
Assistant Garda Commissioner Denis Ferry said "all pedestrians" including in urban areas should wear high visibility clothing.
"I think you should do everything you can to ensure you're visible," he said. thejournal.ie/driving-phone-โฆ
This would be the view of many people who ride bicycles.
Just like when we drive really. ๐ค
Building rubbish and expecting it to be broadly used is a foolish endeavour.

Exactly.
"What this says is you can drink drive a bit, you just check that you're under the limit... why would anybody need a breathalyser before they get in a car, unless they've been drinking and have their car keys in their pocket?"
Anton questions the message the RSA is sending by putting breathalysers in hotels and pubs.
The Road Safety Authority will spend โฌ1.5 million on putting breathalyser terminals in hotels and pubs around the country to allow motorists to check if they are over the limit before driving.
425,000 people have admitted to drink driving in the past year, with about 5,000 arrests made.
๐๏ธDr Sheila Gilheany, CEO of Alcohol Action Ireland, joined us to talk about this latest move by the RSA, and the need for more enforcement.
Am I alone in finding it difficult to understand why people think a non connected cycle track (currently looking at you Newtown Rd) would suddenly be heaving with cyclists๐ค
Imagine this is a newly built road in the middle of a field.
Would you question why there are few cars๐ค
For absolute clarity here - the active travel component of Phase 1 did NOT cost โฌ3+M!
This was clarified in a previous article published by @Wexford_People quoting @wexfordcoco Eamon Hore.
The cycle lane component was estimated a roughly a fifth. ๐

What's happening here? Maybe something changed part way through 2023 on urban/residential 30mph roads!
I wonder if it could be that from Sep 17th 2023 95% of roads with a 30mph limit were changed to 20mph.

With Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) now launched, Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has outlined 5 things you need to know about GDL.
GDL is the new road safety scheme designed to reduce the disproportionate involvement of new, primarily young, drivers in fatal and serious road traffic collisions.

Dear @wexfordcoco
Any update on 30km/hr speed limit consultation at all?
All consultations must be completed by 31 October 2026, and the new 30 km/h speed limits are to be fully implemented by the end of March 2027.
Other councils seem well ahead on this?

Fresh from the talk given by @rovelocreative (Tom Flood) @tcddublin, and knowing that our local Councillors across the land are deciding on which roads in their bailiwicks will have 30 km/h limits set on them, I just wanted to remind them that now is the time to do

Peter Walker: โyou will see contraptions that very much do not meet these criteria. They might look broadly like a bike, with pedals and a chain. But they are often throttle-powered and can travel much, much faster than 15mph.
