Can I get a few reposts for this. Very hard to get publicity for books when you aren’t famous
⚽️ The Smell of Football books TWO and THREE from the legendary trilogy by the brilliant @MickRathbone the former Birmingham City, Blackburn Rovers and Halifax Town player turned physio. 2️⃣ Book two of three is the searingly honest and unputdownable sequel to the award-winning The Smell of Football. In this engrossing and moving but often hilarious memoir, Mick ‘Baz’ Rathbone picks up from where his acclaimed debut tome left off. 🔗 amzn.to/47z9USz 🏟️ There are great stories of the likes of David Moyes, Sir Alex Ferguson, Sir Bobby Charlton and the late, great Ray Clemence. 3️⃣ In the third book, Mick concludes his riveting football trilogy with a 100-day diary starting in the early 2024/25 season. 🔗 amzn.to/4oNNe7y 📚 This book shows just how much the players and officials really do care and just how painful and emotionally draining defeat is. It is an honest account that brings to life the day-to-day running of a professional football club.

📣📣📣 1878s STATEMENT 📣📣📣 First and foremost the 7 of us in this group are fans, fans who spend our hard earned money to follow our team home and away like many others. We are nothing else, just fans like everyone else who wants the best for our football club. We are an independent group, who have developed a good relationship with the club over the years. However, it doesn’t mean to say that we agree with every decision the club makes and in this situation we certainly don’t. The potential sale of Harrison Armstrong goes against everything our fanbase stands for, a young talented scouser who is the future of our club. Should the sale of Harrison Armstrong go ahead, as a group of blues who all do this in our spare time for free, have full time jobs & children. It has been decided, as a group, that we will be standing down for the foreseeable future and will not be dedicating a huge amount of our own time to put together the displays that we do that try and generate the best pre match atmosphere possible. We do not feel right now that our fanbase’s ambition and clubs ambition align. When we design flags, there are rules and regulations that we have to adhere to regarding the wording on our flags during displays, we are not allowed derogatory or offensive wording or images. If we were able to get a load of flags in the ground to show our feelings of discontent, disappointment & anger over this whole situation, believe us, we would, but this is something that simply wouldn’t be allowed. We still urge fans to get behind our team on the pitch and sing our hearts out for 90 mins like we did yesterday at Bournemouth. We will support any actions taken by our fans regarding this. Our motto ‘Nil Satis Nisi Optimum’ is the standard we expect!

Why does the One Day Cup feel so much fun this year? Well, for a start it’s not trying to be something it’s not. It’s developed its own character and fanbase organically over the last few years (with minimal promotion and backing from the ECB, I might add). County fans have taken it, run with it and made it their own. It’s also revived “festival cricket”, with many matches being staged at picturesque outgrounds in a relaxed atmosphere — very much Cardus’s “field of tents and waving colours”. Young players are getting genuine opportunities. Instead of carrying drinks, academy graduates — the stars of tomorrow — are batting in the top order and opening the bowling. But it’s not simply a youth tournament. Established county stalwarts have been playing alongside younger teammates while still producing match-winning performances. That blend of emerging talent and seasoned county pros has been one of the competition’s greatest strengths. And it’s proper 50-over cricket. Innings have time to develop. There’s time for momentum to swing several times before the finish, and spectators get to enjoy a full day watching a game. The ability to watch a full day of play and see a result is perfect for high summer. And — here’s the key — at a time when people are carefully watching their budgets, it’s a relatively affordable day out. Tickets are generally inexpensive, children often get in very cheaply, and supporters can watch from smaller grounds where they are much closer to the action than at many major venues. The One Day Cup has become a celebration of county cricket for those who feel disenfranchised: festival grounds, emerging talent, experienced campaigners and a format that rewards patience and skill. It has a charm and an authenticity all of its own. The Metro Bank Fever is strong and it appears to be spreading 🔥

In my experience, cricket fans always worry the game is dying and are thrilled to see new fans. I'm working class scum and never felt out of place at the Oval. If you honestly think it's an age/class/gender thing, imagine this in the Premier League:
