Great report of a Tufted Duck from @theroyalparks. This little duck, ringed at #Serpentine #Hydepark in Dec 2023 made it all the way to the Rusian arctic circle, ca 2000km NE of Moscow. This shows just how far ducks wintering in London can migrate. #Londonbirds #birdringing #BTO
Stoked to have controlled this #Firecrest in the 'wild' area of @LondonZoo. It had been ringed at #LanguardBirdObs in Oct '25 and is almost certainly a continental migrant. It is one of only ~6 Firecrests that have travelled >100km in the UK #Londonbirds #birdringing #BTO
#cootstudy Anyone know who has used colour-ring WN(NDV)? It was in The Regent’s Park in London today. If so can you send me the metal ring number. Thank you.
An excellent start to the 2025-26 season of the waterbird monitoring project for @theroyalparks yesterday with 22 birds of 7 species captured and ringed under licence, incuding individuals for both #cootstudy and #NMP @Au_Erithacus @KaneBrides #birdringing
A leucistic drake Common Pochard in the Colne Valley today for those of you who like that sort of thing.
Caught and colour-ringed our last 4 #blackheadedgulls of the ‘24/25 season today in @theroyalparks including this smart lady. Safe travels guys and gulls (pun intended)
With spring seemingly arriving many of @theroyalparks #Blackheadedgulls are thinking about, or already have left for their breeding grounds in continental Euope/Fennoscandia. Our #colourmarked birds have been seen this week in Southend 🇬🇧 and the Issjelmeer in the Netherlands 🇳🇱
Wisdom (the world's oldest known bird) has done it again! friendsofmidway.org/wisdom-p…... 📸Dan Rapp (USFWS)

A new species for the #birdringing component of @theroyalparks Waterbird Monitoring Project today at #Regentspark - this splendid adult male #mandarinduck. Also a few more Coot colour-ringed for #cootstudy. #Londonbirds
It’s caption time! (From our waterbird 🤔ringing @theroyalparks earlier this month)
Great start to our seasonal waterbird #ringing @theroyalparks over past two mornings. 43 new birds and 3 retraps inc birds for both #cootstudy and #NMP as well as #swans #ducks #geese and #gulls all captured & ringed under licence. Thanks to all who helped. #londonbirds
Lovely ringing demo in #HollandPark this morning for @RBKC_Ecology. 33 birds of 11 spp captured and ringed under licence with highlights being 2 #firecrest. @TMoranMylett #Londonbirds
Exciting to start a new collaborative project this morning with @OfficialZSL where we are catching and ringing resident and migrant birds and screening them for the #usutu virus vb-radar.com
Last 2 Sand Martin chicks of the season ringed @WWTLondon bringing the total number ringed this year to 336. Still got to do the number crunching to find out how many birds in total (including the ringed ones) fledged (it was SO easy in IPMR!) #sandmartin #londonbirds #NRS
Birders - is the Taylor Swift currently on show in NW London tickable? Or is it just a sub-species of Common Swift? 🤣#Londonbirds @birdbrainuk @step_dove
It’s amazing how far @theroyalparks wintering #blackheadedgull travel! Orange 2V59 (ringed
#StJamessPark Feb '23 & wintering #KensingtonGardens '23/'24) recently seen 3000+km away in Arkhangelsk Province 800km NE of Moscow 🇷🇺. This is beyond the range of most UK wintering BHG
