To comment on how this extends within a #VotingTheory context, a #BordaCount strategy generalizes as "spread the viable candidates as much as possible and then fill in the gaps with the non-viable candidates."

The Borda count's direct (1-level) strategic incentive isn't quite "put the weakest in 2nd place," typically.
It's "figure out the likeliest top two candidates, put one in first, and one in last."

Strictly speaking, this is contestable in that it depends on the specific political alignment in recent elections.
In a priori terms, it is not unusual for it to be the largest of the 3 EV states (e.g., Montana last cycle, and Delaware next cycle unless the House is expanded).

This is a nuanced critique of 1-winner RCV, that would apply to other reformed voting methods, too. I'd summarize it as: "encouraging more candidates can be a bad thing, too; voters check out, and so a majority-opposed candidate can win". Here's a 🧵 of my thoughts:
New Yorkers used ranked-choice voting last month. Did it eliminate spoilers, as promised?
No - RCV doesn't "solve" spoilers, and some pro-RCV narratives may actually make spoilers more likely.
