This is a good demonstration why there is no good reason to placate the pro-Palestinian movement. Mamdani is still more pro-Palestinian than something like 99% of the electorate, and they still aren’t satisfied.
Pro-Palestinian protesters gather outside City Hall to call out Mayor Zohran Mamdani for what they see as his betrayal of the movement. "Mayor Mamdani, you can't hide we charge you with genocide" was a chant that just rang out.

Is this really what they’re mad about? A post that mostly condemns Israel on the anniversary of the attack against Israel? Crazy. xitter.cf/NYCMayor/status/210781…
This day is profoundly painful for so many New Yorkers. It marks three years since the horrific war crimes of October 7. On that day, Hamas killed more than 1,100 Israelis and abducted 251 others. We grieve alongside our many friends and neighbors who still carry that unthinkable loss. The suffering did not begin nor end that day. It instead continued through the Israeli government’s devastating, ongoing genocide in Gaza, in which it has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians—including more than 21,000 children. Even since the so-called ceasefire, more than 1,400 Palestinians have been killed. That suffering has intensified with every Israeli bomb dropped on ambulances waiting outside hospitals, every drone strike targeting a residential building or journalist, and every shipment of food aid turned away at a border crossing. Many New Yorkers are reckoning with this unbearable grief, and we mourn alongside them – all while knowing that our tax dollars fund these war crimes. Three years later, we must refuse to accept a world in which occupation and apartheid continue, where war crimes are met with impunity, and our federal government continues its complicity with every arms shipment. To honor the dead, we must fight for a world in which every person can live with freedom, safety, and dignity.

The closest I have come to the Greek system is being invited as entertainment by sororities & I don’t work in finance, so I don’t have a direct stake. That said, this is blatantly sex-based discrimination.
I work at a large finance firm and hire interns/new grads. If a man applies and I see he was part of a frat. Resume is going straight into the shredder.

I'm convinced. (1) Draco was written like a girl bully. (2) This is why Malfoid is blowing up my timeline. It just fits. (3) Even if it was unrealistic for Malfoy to be a girlbully, this probably helped girls empathize with Harry and made the books that much more successful.
Attention! This is a thread of actual quotes from the Harry Potter books of fascinating interactions between Harry and Draco. I will be attaching artworks of "Draco Malfoid" to each one.

Given that: (A) There is a real public welfare interest in getting productive citizens married off. (B) Private dating apps mostly make money by failing to marry people off. Singapore is ahead of the curve here. It’s rational for big government to offer matchmaking services.
I CALLED IT. It's happening y'all. The singapore gov has launched a pilot programme for a gov-run dating service. Looks like the pilot is currently restricted to just government workers for now.

"But what about historical countries?" Well, the Founding Fathers were big fans of the Roman Republic, so... ... again, quelle surprise. I am America. And so can you.

The bar for this policy is on the floor, btw. You can have 40% of your grads unemployed & the rest working in random unrelated “I have a degree” office jobs & pass. It’s sensible in the same way (and for the same reasons) as Obama’s crackdown on scammy for-profit colleges.
Trump is banning students majoring in degrees that don’t make enough money from taking out college loans. Degrees for social work, art, religious studies, teaching aides, and music will be hit the hardest. trib.al/NmmAzhf

If I am to guess the Senate races without punting to any tossups, this is what I'm thinking now. It's not a bold prediction, but this one is mine.

This is an insane level of support for a military coup. Which is absolutely 100% worse for the country than an assassination. Our democratic system has survived many presidential assassinations. It cannot survive a military coup.
Replying to @StratPolitics
We polled five routes for Trump to leave office before the end of his term. A plurality of Dems support four of them, including a military coup and death by natural causes. The only one underwater, an assassination, is still supported by 29%.

The 312 in Crystal Ball's "What if Biden hadn't just dropped out?" prediction was exactly what Trump actually got against Harris. Said it before, I'll say it again - Harris was such a bad candidate that her performance was not measurably better than the Biden counterfactual.
Sabato’s Crystal Ball made this hypothetical map in July 2024 of what would’ve the predictions look like if Biden had stayed in the race, the map looked pretty grim for him

It appears I was half right. Hung jury, but with the majority in the other direction. Troublesome. I hope she gets put away after a retrial.
My prediction of “hung jury because 1-3 want to let her off the hook” seems more likely to be accurate at this point.

There is essentially no evidence that [insert post-1970 educational intervention] helped. Although there are some ed trends that seem to have been counterproductive, as exhibited by the “Mississippi Miracle” of ending social promotion & returning to phonics.

Every few years, we get a new flashy education study that catches on because it purportedly improved educational outcomes & performance gaps. Then it gets scaled & fails to replicate, usually making things slightly worse.

Trump's USPS voting shenanigans seem like a blatant overreach of executive authority. They also are a nice concrete demonstration of how mail ballots are more vulnerable to interference.

Freedom of religion “works” to the degree that religious belief and practice are compatible with liberal democratic values. This is Popper’s paradox of tolerance and not actually about Judeo-Christian values, specifically.
Replying to @ChelmsDeep
The rest of America misunderstands this concept as well Freedom of religion only works if the religion is in a narrow band of ethical behavior that is compatible with Protestant Christianity Catholicism and Judaism are both within this narrow band because they all come from the same root in ancient Judea

Three core meta-tenets: * Commandments only apply to adherents. * Adherents may freely leave. * The ultimate sanction is at most expulsion. Religious dogma that approves of the murder of apostates or of nonbelievers who break the religion’s rules cannot be included.

There have been Judeo-Christian cults that violate these tenets. There are non-Judeo-Christian religions that do follow these tenets. It does happen that a major social problem of the West is that most globally mainstream versions of Islam violate these tenets.
