The dying Sun may tear the outer solar system apart far sooner than anyone expected.
New research in The Astrophysical Journal Letters suggests that once the Sun sheds its outer layers and collapses into a white dwarf, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune could be thrown into chaos in roughly a billion years—not the nearly eternal stretch of a quintillion years previously imagined. Earth will almost certainly be long gone by then, but the gas giants may not survive either.
Traditional models assumed the outer planets would quietly endure for eons until a random passing star finally disturbed them. Researchers Konstantin Batygin and Jim Fuller of Caltech, along with Fred Adams of the University of Michigan, found a more violent possibility: if the Sun loses mass in discrete bursts rather than a smooth wind, the planetary orbits can be destabilized relatively quickly.
“Everything changes when the envelope departs in pieces,” the authors wrote. In simulations of 672 burst-driven scenarios, up to 96% of the systems became unstable within 3 billion years after the Sun became a white dwarf. About 40% suffered disruption or violent scattering even earlier, before mass loss was finished. Some planets were ejected entirely; in others, Uranus and Neptune swapped places.
Gentler bursts sometimes locked planets into stable resonances that held for billions of years, but the overall picture is clear: the Sun’s death may not be a slow fade. It could be a comparatively rapid, chaotic upheaval that ends the orderly architecture of the outer solar system far sooner than once thought.

If you get addicted to things easily, you have one of the rarest traits there is.
Most people can't stay interested in anything for more than a week. You can lose 6 hours to something without noticing.
Right now that goes to games, feeds, and whatever hooks you first. That's the only problem.
Pick one hard thing actually worth being addicted to. A skill, your body, your work. Give it the same obsession for 2 years and you'll pass people who've been at it for 10.

(Liberating Arts)
.
(The Return of the Artisan)
.
(Writing is Compressed Thinking)
.
.
The difference between average and great is taste.
.
(Do the Impossible, Not just the Easy)
.

(Human Network).

AI Engineering Roadmap 2026
If I were learning AI Engineering from scratch in 2026, this is roughly the path I would follow.
I would start with software engineering, not agents.
Python, APIs, data structures, Git, testing, databases, networking basics, async programming and containers. AI systems still depend on ordinary software fundamentals: state, retries, concurrency, observability, security and reliable data pipelines.
Then I would learn how modern models work at the application boundary.
Tokenization, context windows, embeddings, structured outputs, tool calling, model selection and the basic transformer ideas needed to understand what the model is doing.
After that, retrieval.
Not just "store documents in a vector database."
Learn chunking, embedding models, metadata filtering, lexical and vector retrieval, hybrid search, reranking, context construction and retrieval evaluation. A RAG system is only useful if the retrieved context actually improves the answer.
Only then would I spend serious time on agents.Start with one model and a small set of well-designed tools. Learn tool schemas, state management, retries, permissions, idempotency, human approval and failure recovery before reaching for multi-agent architectures.
More agents do not automatically make a system better. They usually add coordination overhead, latency, cost and more failure modes, so the extra complexity should solve a real problem.
One thing I would move much earlier than most roadmaps is evaluation.
As soon as you build an LLM feature, create a representative test set. Measure task success, regressions, latency and cost. For agents, inspect the trajectory too: which tools were called, with what arguments, in what order, and whether the system recovered correctly from failures.
Then learn the production layer.
CI/CD, containers, queues, rate limits, tracing, monitoring, secrets, access control, deployment and infrastructure as code.
After that, go deeper into inference engineering.
KV-cache management, continuous batching, prefix caching, chunked prefill, quantization, speculative decoding, PagedAttention, tensor parallelism and distributed serving all matter once latency, throughput and GPU cost become real constraints.
At that stage, specialization becomes much easier.
You can go deeper into inference systems, agents, retrieval, evaluation, multimodal systems, training, GPU programming, ML infrastructure, or a domain such as NLP, vision or reinforcement learning.
And throughout the entire path, build real projects.
A roadmap can tell you what exists.Shipping systems teaches you where the hard parts actually are.

Hubble’s view catches the quiet structure between those events—arms, dust, and the ordinary light of a galaxy that keeps ending stars in public.
