This Memorial Day weekend, we remember and honor all who gave their lives serving in the U.S. Armed Forces — from the Revolutionary War to today.

It should be a bigger story that a huge chunk of Virginia’s political class is still accepting money from companies operating gambling machines that the state has tried to criminalize

No one is forcing the General Assembly to keep trying to buck the trend year after year after year.

“Skill” slot machine manufacturers Virginia business plan:
1. Flood Virginia with tens of thousands of illegal “skill” slot machines,
2. Operate unregulated without state approval for as many years as possible,
3. Confuse and lie to Virginia small business owners with bogus claims of legality,
4. Confuse state & local law enforcement
with bogus claims of legality,
5. File as many frivolous lawsuits as possible,
6. Continue to operate illegally even after the Virginia General Assembly explicitly bans the “skill” game machines,
7. Operate even after the VA Supreme Court upholds the ban,
8. Continue bogus claims of legality even after the Virginia Attorney General reaffirms the illegality of the machines in a OAG memo to state prosecutors, sheriffs and police chiefs,
9. 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲…and 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 ONLY 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻…

New: The Virginia Fraternal Order of Police is urging lawmakers to reject a skill games compromise.
President Ray Clemons says, “Make no mistake: the illegal skill game problem in Virginia was created by slot manufacturers. They did not stumble into this market. These out-of-state companies deliberately flooded convenience stores, gas stations, and restaurants with illegal machines.”
“The General Assembly needs send a clear message that Virginia will not reward operators who deliberately defy state law,” he added.

The General Assembly should uphold the ban on skill games. Any legalization bill should have 3 components: 1) a REAL referendum so voters can opt in and decide if they want slot machines in their communities; 2) strong, comprehensive, enforceable regulatory oversight; and 3) a meaningful charitable component ensuring revenues support Virginia’s nonprofit organizations.

Legalizing “skill” slot machines & allowing a 24/7 casino on every Virginia cell phone would expose families to new and dangerous financial risks, undermine churches & charitable institutions and weaken the rule of law in Virginia. @GovernorVA @SpanbergerForVA @AGJayJones @jonesjay @AgForestryVA @VaAgriculture @VSPPIO

iGaming is unlimited casino-style gambling on cell phones—alone…𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙘𝙝 🛋️ 𝙗𝙚𝙙 🛏️ and 𝙩𝙤𝙞𝙡𝙚𝙩 🚽 - 24/7
The negative consequences of iGaming legalization in Virginia would be severe: faster addiction, broken families and financial devastation to at-risk Virginians — more credit card debt, theft cases, bankruptcies and severe cuts in donations to churches and charities. Virginia taxpayers, employers & social services will bear the costs.
