Overjoyed to learn that Henri Kagan and Kenso Soai have been awarded the #NobelPrize in Chemistry! Kagan’s nonlinear effects and Soai’s asymmetric autocatalysis revolutionized our understanding of chirality and molecular self-organization.

Kenso Soai – awarded the 2026 #NobelPrize in Chemistry – designed the first chemical reaction in which only one of the potential mirror images was formed. Other than life itself, no one had ever achieved this feat. The Soai reaction is one of the most spectacular chemical experiments ever conducted.
“This is probably the coolest experiment in organic chemistry,” said Peter Somfai, a member of the Nobel Committee for Chemistry, speaking at today's announcement

Congrats to prof. Soai, this years Nobel Prize laureate and also speaker of IOCB Invited Talks series. We are very proud to have now 17 Nobel Prize winners among them. We are even more proud that some of them got their Nobel Prize AFTER being invited to IOCB…
🗣️ What was it like to work with a future Nobel laureate? Ivo Starý from our institute spoke about his experience in a Czech Television special – earlier in his career, he worked with Kensō Soai, one of the two chemists awarded today.

“Our prime minister wants to call me…”
2026 chemistry laureate Kenso Soai needed to cut short our interview when he learnt that the Japanese prime minister was trying to reach him. Before then, the new laureate spoke to us about his excitement on being awarded the #NobelPrize.
Soai also explained how it feels to have researchers all over the world studying his famous Soai reaction – one of the most spectacular chemical experiments ever conducted.
