With members of Georgian civil society, on the margins of the @PACE_NEWS session, we discussed their day-to-day experience in circumstances that remain challenging.
The Council of Europe continues to protect people’s rights and freedoms through the @ECHR_CEDH.
A valuable meeting that also highlighted where we can strengthen our impact, including through the reform of the Council of Europe.

The anti-American Georgian Dream regime is creating a climate of terror and oppression in Georgia. A strong OSCE report shows this unequivocally. Grateful to join my colleagues @RepCohen @SenatorWicker @SenWhitehouse @SenatorShaheen csce.gov/press-releases/bipa…

The @OSCE is built on strong commitments to human rights, democracy and the rule of law. 🇸🇪 welcomes the Moscow Mechanism mission’s independent expert report and recommendations on the alarming situation in 🇬🇪. The #OSCE #MoscowMechanism provides the opportunity to investigate issues related to the OSCE human dimension and is an important tool for accountability. We urge the Georgian authorities to implement the recommendations in full.
Human rights, democracy & the rule of law are at the core of the OSCE’s principles & commitments. 🇸🇪 welcomes the independent expert assessment of the human rights situation in 🇬🇪 & urges Georgian authorities to implement in full the @OSCE #MoscowMechanism recommendations: Link👇

While meeting Germany’s ambassador to Georgia, @Diplo_Peter, TI Georgia’s Executive Director @ekagigauri_ was confronted by TV Imedi, Georgian Dream’s main propaganda channel.
There was no public notice of this meeting, yet Imedi showed up with cameras, raising real concerns that members of western diplomatic missions may be under surveillance. The footage is now being weaponized as another smear attempt against civil society and European diplomats, both of whom Imedi has targeted repeatedly.

Georgia cannot join the EU until its government changes its authoritarian course.
The European Parliament stands with the Georgian people.
Parliament does not recognise Georgia’s current government and says its EU path is effectively suspended until fair elections happen.

I have signed a directive adding 19 more Georgian 🇬🇪officials to Estonia’s national sanctions list.
Violence, politicized trials, and disproportionate punishments have no place in democracy.
Estonia will continue to stand with Georgian civil society, independent media, and the people of Georgia in their fight for dignity, rights, and a European future.
