Wait for it...
Which is exactly what the driver should have done.
No, not the red car...
Here's a shocking example of a #closepass caught on cam.
It cost the driver:
9 Points on their licence
A fine of £600
Surcharge of £66
Costs of £110
Motorists, leave at least 1.5m when overtaking at 30mph. More if overtaking at higher speeds.

Textbook behaviour from driver and cyclist. If we can all channel this when we use the roads we can make the world a safer place.
Tyre checks should always be completed, but does your company do spot checks to make sure it's not just a tick box exercise?
yesterday, another HGV leaving the Motorway just past Junction 7 of the M6 South, as a result of a tyre blow out. Driver was very fortunate to get out alive with minor injuries. Please check your tyres regularly for yours and everyone’s else’s safety! #fatal4

Still plenty to get done before the weekend but the end is in sight...
Whatever you're up to this Christmas and New Year (and recognising that it's a difficult time of year for many), may all your journeys be safe ones. Merry Christmas from the Transafe Network team to you all.
Saul Jeavons of @TransafeNetwork is presenting at the @Road_Safety_GB National Road Safety Conference next week, on how to integrate Collision Review Boards into a #SafeSystem approach to #VisionZero. Residential places are sold out but Day Delegates go to nationalroadsafetyconference…
Stops like this emphasise the need for well resourced RPUs as well as technology. Whilst seatbelt offences could be identified by camera & remotely processed without interaction with the driver, relying on just that for enforcement is a green light to drink drivers and criminals.
The driver of the ice cream van was sighted in Devizes where the driver had no seatbelt on. On stopping the van the driver provided a roadside breath result of 90!
The flake has been added and we are off to custody.

We're helping kick off today's programme at @Traffex with a panel session close to our hearts. So much can still be done to improve the safety of driving for work, and at a time of tight budgets can in many cases actually save organisations money at the same time.
If you're headed to @Traffex this June, check out the Local Roads stage on Thursday 8th, where we'll be taking part in a panel session on #RoadRisk with @NationalHways and @CompTransport

We remember seeing this report at the time...
It's Monday again, so here's something funny.
March 1988: ITN reports on the notoriously hazardous A19 road in Teeside. Local councillor Mr Davidson – doing his best impression of the Mayor from Jaws – insists the road is as safe as any other. Guess what happens next... 🚙 ⛔️❗️
1988: The Most Dangerous Road in Britain?

Another excellent #WestminsterLecture from @PACTS - with Simon French formerly of @raibgovuk and encouraging news from the minister about a Road Collision Investigation Branch which now sounds as if it will finally happen.
Our thanks to @NationalHways for hosting yesterday's meeting of the @HTAsafer project. Lots of useful discussion with industry and police stakeholders on ways to improve escorting and #AbLoads compliance.

Would you believe it… 😡🤯
One of our Casualty Reduction Officers (CRO) stopped the driver of this car this morning.
She didn’t understand why she was reported for an offence. 🤯
A great example of why the time to perform driver's checks properly needs to be included in their daily routine - and on their paid time.
#HGV inspected by our team on the #M42 🚔
This leaf spring mounting assembly didn’t look out of place at first glance….. until the viewing angle changes 👀…….the bolt had wound its way out & detachment was imminent 😳
Prohibited from use until safely repaired🚫

Very surprised that @ChiefConPSNI 's officers are trying to let this driver get away with this appalling driving. It is absolutely possible to prove this case, by using a company like our former colleagues at acuityforensics.co.uk/

Perhaps @AndyCoxDCS can get his national contacts to chase this one down?
