Ava was a 14-year-old middle school student in the Dallas–Fort Worth area with the same hopes and dreams as any kid her age. But home was hard, and one day she ran away.

Human trafficking takes many forms from forced labour and child exploitation to forced marriage and the use of children in illegal activities.
A child forced to beg or steal may not simply be an offender, they may be a victim of trafficking and exploitation.
Gabby Massey the Country Director of the Human Trafficking Institute stated that effective response to crime requires law enforcement to look beyond the offence, identify victims, investigate properly, ensure their safety and connect them to appropriate support services.
Recognize. Respond. Protect. Refer.

In the U.S., Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when freedom finally reached the enslaved people who had been denied it the longest.
Today, millions remain trapped in trafficking, still waiting for freedom. We keep working for the day when every person, in every country, is free.
