“I’m constantly shocked at how uneducated the vast majority of students and teachers are with the idea of autistic/neurodivergent peers.” #NotASchoolSkiver #Autistic #SENDReform – at Nottingham, England
Hear from 14 year old Imogen about how the government's attendance campaign, and the idea that attendance in school should be prioritised over everything else, makes her feel. Is this inclusion?

Christmas can be difficult for autistic people. Things that are seen as ‘tradition’ & what ‘must’ happen can be tricky. When thinking about Christmas for your family there’s no SHOULD involved, it might look different but that’s OK. Our tips: autisticgirlsnetwork.org/an-… #Autism

I didn't get all my GCSEs (not Maths or Sciences)
I didn't go to university.
My furniture and wallpaper designs were stocked internationally including Liberty London.
I was in design magazines, even on a front cover.
Now I am an author.
Grades were not my entry or my barrier.

Everyone has a unique way of processing information (neurodiversity), these are the terms that are currently used to distinguish between those that have the experience of the majority (neurotypical) and those who have a different experience (neurodivergent). #Autism

ALT Three titled boxes on an orange background read: Neurodiversity - The range of differences in individual brain function and behavioural traits. Neurotypical - Showing brain functions, ways of processing information and behaviours which are seen to be most common. Neurodivergent - Behaving, thinking and learning differently to those who are considered neurotypical.

When we talk about our / our young person’s autism & are faced with the head tilt & “I’m sorry.” Whether it’s well-meaning or misinformed we need to spread the message that we are talking difference not deficit & we should be celebrating the joys of individuality. #Autism

Never assume.
For many children under enormous pressure more changes, more attention, more difference to the day can cause weeks of build up stress for families.
Encouraging or cajoling are not in their best interest.
Instead let’s have positive experiences for those who can’t..
