#Squadron42 thoughts from my 5 hour play:
- plays extremely well
- no major issues for me, felt very polished
- music and art design is 11 out of 10, the soundtrack is incredible
- pacing is very good, I actually felt like I played a lot more than 5 hours
Today marks 14 years exactly (!!!) since #StarCitizen / #Squadron42 was announced, on October 10, at the 2012 #GameDevelopersConference 🕓

My early thoughts of SQ42 (I’ll share more later):
It has the sauce.
I had fun.
I was immersed.
I didn’t want the playtest to end.
Yes, I tried the photo mode. The photo people will love it. All the functionality you’d want.
From the details to the grand scheme of things, there’s a lot to be excited about. Minimal bugs and jank, but fundamentally nothing a little extra polish time can’t address.

First I want to say Thank you to @cloudimperium and thank. Team behind squadron 42 for inviting us to play! Also @MarkHamill for comming to the studio and making the experience even more amazing. Was a genuinely incredible surprise.
Squadron 42 has exceeded my expectations, seeing the Opening scene running live, and actually getting to play it, truly is something you need to experience because watching it or watching someone play could never in a million years do it justice. Chris Roberts said the goal was to immerse you in a playable Sci-fi Action movie were you are the star. The amount of content is on another level, The Score, ... I mean.. @GeoffZanell and all Those involved crafted something Oscar worthy. The visuals at 4k are even better than before and comming from me is a big praise. The Characters feel alive, the various Capital ships we were in all felt like authentic Naval ships, with , humorous crew banter, organic conversations between the crew , some slight hazing that would be at home on a real naval vessel. Voice acting was incredible. The seamless blend of Cut Scenes and live gameplay are so well blended and balanced that it does truly feel like you are experiencing a Big budget box office sci-fi Action movie. There are long cut scenes but gameplay is 80 percent of the experience thus far in the 5 hours we played. My group experienced extremely minimal issues and the ones we did didn't affect gameplay at all. I'm left wanting so much more time to Play and. Blown away but what I did experience I expected alot and this exceeded my expectations. The gameplay environments we had are so varied, but things not bound to ship interiors were enormous open spaces and Visual grandeur. Lots of new tools, items, ships, vehicles and props, the game doesn't really start till after rhe Vanduul battle, the character is brilliantly done. The character creation integration is so well done that it doesn't pull you out of the immersion, puzzles weren't difficult for me, the Hacking system was alot of. Fun.. Based on my 5 hours hands on I would give what I experienced a Soild 9.5 out of 10.
They truly created an incredible cinematic and gameplay experience!
Feel free to ask me Any questions you have or want me to try and ask!

Initial thoughts on Squadron 42 after playing it for 5 hours today:
1) A 4K display with RGB Stripe is highly recommended as the game is beautiful visually and has a lot of text.
2) Audio is very full and on point so if you have a family consider using open back headphones. Using active noise cancellation headphones would be amazing and immersive.
3) Some parts of the game were slow, but I think it's partly feeling that way because I'm an active star citizen player. It may be very appropriate for new people to Star Citizen and Squadron 42, especially the immersive how to segments of the game.
4) I loved the firing range experience in the Idris
5) I got genuine goosebumps, 3 different times, and had to take a break after the 3rd time. The feels...
6) After being in the chaos, sweating bullets, and anxiety passing, the game actually starts... Pure magic how they did that, and made me feel like... Frack, I'm in for it ...
7) Hair and character models were mostly amazing with some suggestions that I gave to make thing less jaring at times here and there.
8) AI was mostly better than I had hoped, but with some traditional Star Citizen AI jank happening here and there but was definitely a minority occurrence. Nearly feels like they could do taxi (Genesis Starliner) missions now with NPCs.
9) Flight model, enjoyable. More on that later.
10) Story, yeah, I got invested in the world and my character.
?/10 rating as I need sleep and time to digest. I haven't played anything for 5 hours straight in years. BUT, I had fun.
Thank you for the opportunity @RobertsSpaceInd @squadron_42 @discolando @CaptainZyloh and team 🥂
Went into the Squadron 42 event with pretty mild expectations.
I was blown away.
The story was incredible, the pacing felt spot on, the acting was great, and the gameplay was genuinely fun. Hacking was really cool, Charge & Drain was awesome, and I REALLY want more time with the new flight model in the ’verse.
There were a few FPS drops, mostly toward the end, so there’s still some dialing-in to do.
But ignoring those?
My experience was a 9/10.
I came away way more excited for Squadron 42 than I expected.
If CIG brings this level of care and passion to SC... I am so looking forward to the future.
