4/7 What’s great about this approach? We skip the dissection and only need a few DNA extractions, making it possible to test hundreds of oysters right at the farm. Want to see the process in action? Check out this animation:

Excellent ideas from @ThinkUHI #Aquaculture Hub workshop in #Shetland featuring a productive day of discussions with industry and academic stakeholders. We were also spoiled with both mussel & salmon farm site visits, stunning coastline & exceptional seafood! Can't wait to return

Just back from the Association of Scottish #Shellfish Growers annual meeting! @roslininstitute was represented by talks from @beatnim and myself. I outlined our labs approach to support Scottish #mussel populations & shellfish #aquaculture through #immunology & #genomics research

Delighted to announce the launch of the Regan lab at @roslininstitute @EdinburghUni Our group will research #immunology of #invertebrate #aquaculture species 🌱🦪🦐🐚 & molecular ecology🦠🧬of their growing environments #IMTA #microbiome

We also learned about diversifying LTA farming e.g. is tunicate (sea squirt) farming the future? pronofa.no/en/ All in all, it was a fantastic meeting. I learned about great projects which could have relevance for🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿, met amazing people, and I can't wait til the next one – at Tromsø, Norway

Elisa Ravagnan (@ASTRAL_H2020 Coordinator) led a panel on #IMTA bottlenecks & opportunities. We chatted pros & cons of combining larger monoculture farms in a single water basin vs smaller diversified farms. Terms like "Circular Economy" can be used over "IMTA" to avoid jargon♻️ – at Tromsø, Norway

We had some great presentations including Harald Sveier from Lerøy/Ocean Forest demonstrating their seaweed farming efforts alongside finfish netpens - what worked, what didn't and what's next. – at Tromsø, Norway

I was lucky enough to attend the first annual workshop on Norwegian Lower Trophic #Aquaculture species (seaweeds, shellfish, urchins etc.) in Tromsø #NoLTANet joining ~50 🇳🇴growers and scientists from academia to industry. Have had great discussions at #ISGA2022 around our upcoming @10xGenomics spatial transcriptomics on OsHV-1 infected juvenile oysters. Can't wait to dissect all the #immune signatures and responses! #aquaculture

Anyone arriving in Puerto Varas for #ISGA2022 today should know that a loud air raid siren plays here twice to get for emergency services 🚨 3 times is an evacuation ahead of volcanic eruption 🌋 Better to learn now than googling at 2 am because there's a fire in the city 😅

Replying to @LVervelde
Definitely see the wild haggis exhibition at Kelvingroves natural history museum.

Very cool presentation by @Salisbury_Fish on genetic basis for anadramous Vs resident morphs in Arctic charr using 3 distinct populations in Newfoundland @gia2020. Symmetry with brown trout SNPs associated with these morphs 😯 Big candidates for improving #aquaculture 🐟

Great to see @rwap5's data on the big screen measuring OsHV-1 replication in Pacific oyster tissue explants in vitro 🦪🔬🧫 An excellent model for studying viral pathology of various organs in isolation @gia2020 #fishsci

Excellent 2 days in Oban #AllAboutAlgae @SAMSoceannews Dr. Adrian MacLeod and Dr. @kati_michalek showed us their experimental farm where they optimise practicality & affordability. Also, great talks from funding, investment & processing issues to success stories from @swmull_iona

Thousands of native oyster shells on Longniddry beach make for great fire pit lining 🔥
