4/7 What’s great about this approach? We skip the dissection and only need a few DNA extractions, making it possible to test hundreds of oysters right at the farm. Want to see the process in action? Check out this animation:

3/7 Our method built on our observation that Bonamia DNA was found abundantly in the faeces (or pseudofaeces) of infected oysters. Just a brief quarantine in a seawater tank, and we have ideal PCR material! 🦪🧬🧪📊

2/7 A few years back, native oyster enthusiasts highlighted a big challenge: existing diagnostics for the highly destructive Bonamia parasite were time-consuming, costly and involved sacrificing many oysters. So we set out to change that..

Had a brilliant time at @roslininstitute's shellfish biotechnology workshop. It was great to see everyone, to meet some fantastic people and to get a huge inspirational boost! Thanks a million @beatnim @TimReganLab and Nick Wade for another great event :)
Replying to @j_nschulze
@j_nschulze reveals the phenotypic and genomic signatures of rapid evolution to heat stress in mussels and copepods at @roslininstitute's Shellfish Workshop! Her work demonstrates the power of long-term datasets to reveal temperature-linked adaptation. 🦪🧬🔥
