Thanks to messages from everyone who heard me on @BBCMoreOrLess today, clearly a surprise for some to hear my voice on their car radio? Great to speak with @TimHarford and set the record straight about shark & chips! @UoEBiosciences @ExeterMarine bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001w86…

Thoughts on the tackle height discussion triggered by the @RFU Having read this paper (seems highly relevant) link.springer.com/article/10… Overall thoughts: there is not enough data to justify these drastic changes. @RugbyPodcast @chjones9 @Scienceofsport @WillStewNeuro Details:

Figures 5 and 6 show there is an enormous variation in concussion levels – suggesting that other factors are crucial – such as how well trained players are, growing safety such as “if in doubt sit them out” etc. Anecdotally, the amateur is getting safer every season

Also, massive skew towards USA data - how relevant is college rugby in the USA to the UK where rugby is a mainstream sport? I would expect UK coaching and understanding of the game by all involved to be higher in the UK.

There are very few rugby studies included. Only 11 total. Including a huge number of important variables. ZERO(!) for the womens game!!! Why should they have such a big change with NO DATA?

Finally: "There were only two studies that collected overall rugby concussion rates data [55, 60]. Given the small number of rugby studies available and large prediction intervals, indicating high variability, caution should be used when interpreting the rugby concussion rate."
49
The HGHEST estimate of concussion rate is 28 concussions per 10000AEs In a "typical" rugby career: 3 sessions week x 40 weeks x 20 years = 2400 10000/2400 = approximately 4 concussions OR one concussion per 5 years Personally, I would accept that risk to play the game I love.

Thanks Clemence! Maybe 10 minutes is not enough time to tell everyone how great oysters are ... 🤔
Last day at @gia2020 and @rwap5 is trying to convince us that oyster are the best aquaculture's species (I'm not sure I agree...). He's presenting his PhD results on OsHV replication in pacific oyster tissue explants with lots of great videos of oysters (and oyster tissues)
