One thing this @nytimes piece misses is that both are Jewish.

This attractive silk waistcoat from the 1860s was owned by a gentleman from Llandegfan, Anglesey. It is marked with the shop’s name where it was bought: John Aronson, Bangor, a Jewish immigrant from Prussia.

I accept that. Although I do think the press did tap into it with the Ed Miliband bacon sandwich episode: forward.com/culture/443545/w…

Yes I get that. I don't believe that's what's going on with that Michael Howard poster. Because I think AC would've had exactly the same idea had, say, Liam Fox been Tory leader at the time. But Anne W would not have said, imo, that "something of the night" thing about LF.

Hi @brigitfilm, I will stick my neck out and respond to your @ThinkJew query.
1. I have seen questionable performances given by Jews.
2. Is it ok for a secular Jew to mimic a Haredi by dressing up?
3. Comparisons between Jews and other groups who cannot pass simply don't work.

4. The key point is whether 'Jewish actors were approached to play such roles as Bernie Madoff and Ruth Bader Ginsburg, but rejected those offers, freeing them up for Robert De Niro and Felicity Jones.'

I wrote this for the @guardian
'Why I quit' series. The photo was taken on the day in 1993 when I was diagnosed with Epstein-Barr, from which I never fully recovered. It makes me sad for the younger me and proud for the life I have built nonetheless.
