After the Bears fired him in 1993, Ditka made a cameo appearance on the SNL cold open with the Superfans. What a loss.

We will never forget the more than 250 hostages kidnapped on October 7, 2023, or those taken captive before that day. We will never forget what they endured. We will never forget those who never made it home alive, and we will continue to pray for the healing and recovery of those who did. We will never forget the horrors of October 7, 2023.

The Calanit, Israel’s national flower, blooms red across the fields of southern Israel. It's a symbol of beauty, resilience and life continuing to grow even after unimaginable loss. Three years ago today, on October 7, 2023, Israel experienced the deadliest day in its history. Today, we remember the lives that were taken, the families forever changed, and the communities that continue to carry their memories. Like the calanit that returns to bloom each year, we remember those who are no longer here and carry their stories forward.

Three years ago Hamas terrorists launched a premeditated slaughter of innocent Israeli citizens, unleashing an explosion of violent antisemitism worldwide. As we remember the victims of 10/7, we must all recommit to confronting anti-Jewish hate wherever it appears.

This is our Jerusalem Post front page for October 7, three years on. Naama was 17, in Kfar Aza. She thought she might die. She couldn’t find a pen, so she used eyeliner on her grandfather’s prescription and wrote: “Naama of a few hours from now, if you are reading this, you are alive.” She survived. We chose her words because October 7 happened to ordinary people, in ordinary homes, with ordinary objects around them. And because even in that moment, she left room for hope.

Farewell to costume designer Bob Mackie, a designer of spectacular gowns for great divas, but also the creator of perhaps the greatest costume sight gag in history.

I listened to this album all day Friday--and still remember how healing it was in 2002. Famously, on the afternoon of 9/11, hours after the towers fell, Springsteen was down the shore in Sea Bright, NJ, when a car drove by and the driver yelled, "Bruce, we need you." Ten days later he performed "My City of Ruins" (originally about the decline of Asbury Park) during the "America: A Tribute to Heroes" broadcast youtube.com/watch?v=FEHD8MZs…. And then the following summer, he released The Rising, including the title song (performed in NYC below) in Aug 2022, along with other tributes like “Into the Fire,” the story of a 9/11 first responder’s final heroic actions. About The Rising, Bruce said: "One of the most powerful images of the 11th, that I'd read in the paper, some of the people coming down were talking about the emergency workers who were ascending. The idea of those guys going up the stairs, up the stairs, ascending, ascending. I mean you could be ascending a smoky staircase, you could be in the afterlife, moving on."

"No day shall erase you from the memory of time." These words, written by the ancient Roman poet Virgil nearly 2,000 years ago, are inscribed at the National September 11 Memorial as a lasting promise of remembrance.

A lot weighs on my mind this Shabbat. It is the first Rosh Hashanah since all the hostages returned home. Families can start the new year without wondering when their loved ones will be returned to them. The world observes 25 years since the devastating attacks on the World Trade Center, killing thousands and leaving scars on countless friends and families. Rosh Hashanah is a time for reflection and renewal. As we reflect, we cannot help but think about those we have lost, whether it was this past year or decades ago. We carry their memory with us, and we honor their memory any way we can. Shabbat Shalom and Shana Tova.
