It was inevitable that the billionaire man child would eventually turn off our API access. It's been fun and this app has helped stop a lot of abuse. @TheBlockBot was the first shared block list app on Twitter created by me @oolon in 2013, just over 10 years ago!

This is what Elon's change to blocking will enable, people can quote your posts more easily as they're not blocked. Then you can't unquote it, and their followers have a nice convenient link to click on to abuse you Bluesky already more advanced than "X" xitter.cf/bluesky/status/1846626…

We recently published a blog post on new anti-toxicity features on Bluesky, like detaching quote posts: bsky.social/about/blog/08-28…

So much better than Twitter, who killed @TheBlockBot and all shared blocking services ages ago. It's built into the app that you can share and subscribe to blocklists! Not that I've had to block anyone on there yet, or even mute... xitter.cf/bluesky/status/1846626…
At Bluesky, we take online safety seriously. If you want to block someone, you can! It's your experience to customize. In addition, you can also: + subscribe to block lists maintained by users you trust + detach quote posts + more bsky.app/download

I live in the EU so I'm definitely not starting a service asking for people's passwords. GDPR nightmare :D

That's what all the spammers use, so that would be possible but maybe a bit heavy going. Also to apply blocks to someone else's account you'd need their username/password and no MFA on the account.

Elon has suspended my account calling for #BlockTheBlue after Matt reported on it. He's scared! @BlockTheBlue gone, but strike us down and we'll become more powerful than you can possibly imagine ;) #BlueHarvest #StreisandEffect xitter.cf/MattBinder/status/1649…

So it looks like @TransphobeB is no more, barring a miracle. I'll keep adding to the list if I can in the hope API access might be eventually restored. Good luck to all! xitter.cf/TheBlockBot/status/164…

Elon Musk has shown he has absolutely no interest in stopping abuse on this platform. In fact he actively encourages neo-Nazis to set up shop, allows them to get "verified" by paying him $8/month to get special access to abuse minorities. Which is why I say #BlockTheBlue always!

It eventually died when @blocktogether took over as a much more flexible tool, then was restarted as a @blocktogether node when that project stopped. So not quite 10 continuous years of operation. The first page of theblockbot.com way back then - web.archive.org/web/20130301…

Yeah people who tried to sub when it was broken will need to do that. But that's a few hundred just before it went down. Generally that won't help :D

Done 900 for you so far today, so obviously back working again. It's been out of action for over a week I'm afraid - hence the slow uptake.

Unsub and resub will add a lot of Actions, so don't do it unless sure it isn't working as it just leads to more rows for it to churn through when trying to do your blocks. I'll check yours now.

Back up for now, not been cut off by Melon yet! xitter.cf/TheBlockBot/status/164…
Blockbot down for maintenance! Actions table autoincrement id was an int, the table that holds all blocks etc, and the number of rows is over 4bn now... Hit the max allowed value! So re-creating the table w/bigint, will be down for 24hrs I'd guess. It's a 250Gb compressed table!
