#breaking - jailed PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan calls for movement to lay down its arms. This is a huge development. “I am making a call for the laying down of arms, and I take on the historical responsibility of this call.”   “As in the case with any modern community and party whose existence has not been abolished by force, would voluntarily do, convene your congress and make a decision; all groups must lay their arms and the PKK must dissolve itself.”

My husband went to the notary public this morning to do a legal errand for me — fortunately he was late (as usual). Calls me shortly after, “Sorry, that office has been obliterated.” That was today’s Israeli strike on the Tayouneh bldg

Anyway, I wrote about the LAF’s role here: Lebanon (and its army) have historically been undermined by various sectarian foreign-backed militias, only the latest iteration of which is Hezbollah. thenationalnews.com/news/men…

The toll is now 274 people killed — including 21 children and 31 women — and 1,024 wounded. Fleeing residents tell me whole villages in south Lebanon have been destroyed in today’s strikes.
At least 100 people killed and 400 wounded in Israel's air assault on south Lebanon & the Bekaa, according to preliminary toll by the Lebanese health ministry - including children, women, paramedics. Traffic up to Saida deadlocked as residents of south seek to flee bombardment.

Meanwhile every single Gazan journalist is being hounded and hunted and struggling to stay alive, eat, clean themselves whilst seeing family, friends and colleagues killed, lose their homes or suffer terrible deprivation. Embeds with IDF simply do not count imo 🧵
