Always a great pleasure to work with Rob Rose @dysrhythmology exploring how frailty sets the stage for late life heart diseases like HF and AF.

@SusanEHowlett and I have reviewed the effects of frailty on the heart in aging. Available here:
Preclinical Studies on the Effects of Frailty in the Aging Heart - Canadian Journal of Cardiology onlinecjc.ca/article/S0828-2…
Our new review in @Cell_Metabolism on the relationship between Metabolism and Frailty is now live! Discusses how maintaining a youthful metabolism in later life can help prevent frailty. Congrats to co-authors including @Alice_E_Kane @mmishrabio

We are thrilled to have received this major infrastructure grant supported by the Canadian Foundation for Innovation and Research Nova Scotia to purchase cutting edge equipment for research into heart disease in aging and frailty.
Thanks for the generous comments Sofie. It was a real honour to be invited to speak at the First Canadian Conference on Geroscience.
Exciting talk on Frailty and how to measure it in mice and humans by @SusanEHowlett in Montreal! Very inspiring!
This is a great opportunity to showcase new work on cardiac aging.
📢 CJC is seeking submissions of original research papers for an August 2024 focus issue on "Aging and senescence in heart and vascular disease". Deadline is December 1, 2023. For more information, see 👉 onlinecjc.ca/aging-senescenc…
Congratulations @CapIntel Founder and CEO. @JkRockwood
Thanks to @APSPublications for this honour. Also, a big thank you to the Editors and Reviewers for their thoughtful input into our work.
These authors won the #APSselect award in @ajpheartcirc for "Chronic testosterone deficiency increases late inward sodium current & promotes triggered activity in ventricular myocytes from aging male mice"👏

Us too. The emergency line is busy. Very worrying.

@HalifaxWater our house and our neighbour (and quite likely others) just lost water pressure here in south end Halifax. Just in time for your customer care centre to close for the long weekend…
Congratulations to Dr. Kim Brooks on this appointment as President of Dalhousie - exciting times ahead. @kbrooks_taxlaw
We are proud and excited to announce that the Board of Governors has named our own Dr. Kim Brooks as Dalhousie University's 13th President and Vice-Chancellor: bit.ly/4772y6m
Our new work shows chronic exposure to low testosterone increases late inward sodium current in the aging heart by increasing expression of NaV1.8. This can help explain arrhythmias in older men. Great to work on this with the Rose lab in Calgary. @dysrhythmology
Great to collaborate with @SusanEHowlett and her team on this study:
Chronic Testosterone Deficiency Increases Late Inward Sodium Current and Promotes Triggered Activity in Ventricular Myocytes from Aging Male Mice journals.physiology.org/doi/…
Excited to be part of the first Geroscience conference in Canada in my beautiful home town, Montreal.
Our preliminary agenda for the 1st Canadian Conference on #Translational #Geroscience is here. Registration opens soon. @aging_CEDurable @Jane_Rylett @george_kuchel @SusanEHowlett @SoutoPhilipe @howardbergman2 @Rvieillissement @hevolution_f @geronsociety @CIUSSS_COMTL @RIMUHC1
Our new editorial in Aging. This paper highlights the fact that many commonly used reference genes are modified not only by age, but by sex and by the degree of frailty.
Reference genes in aging: what are you referring to?

Delighted by this opportunity to showcase our work at this outstanding meeting.
Strong Canadian presence at the #Geroscience Summit @NIAgeing. @SusanEHowlett presenting on animal models of #frailty
Thanks for visiting Halifax @LammingLab. Fabulous seminar and lots of great discussions.
Great time visiting @DalhousieU and seeing the city of Halifax with @SusanEHowlett! Great questions and interactions with trainees and faculty!
Molecular studies use reference genes that involve enzymes and proteins that regulate key physiological processes. We show that the expression of many common reference genes in mouse skeletal muscle is modified by age, sex, and frailty. Well, duh. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3650…
Our new systematic review/meta-analysis - led by @Stefan_H_M - shows that frailty, measured with laboratory-based frailty index tools, is associated with mortality and other adverse health outcomes, with no clear male-female difference in frailty scores! pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3662…
It was wonderful to attend convocation @DalhousieU and see my most recent PhD student receive his degree @DalPharmacology. IRL. Well deserved @Stefan_H_M
I think #stormchips originated in 2014 and the term was coined by Stephanie Domet on CBC in Nova Scotia. @cbcasithappens theglobeandmail.com/amp/life…
