At Easter and with this recent shoe shine event in Beijing, I think of Jimmy, @SupportJimmyLai - At every turn the CCP tried to buy Jimmy Lai, as did some tycoons. Each attempt rebuffed.
The boss often wondered aloud how greedy did men & women like Evan Greenberg, Tim Cook, even Musk, have to be to shoe shine dictators. For what? More money. Didn’t they understand FU money?
Now, I am lucky. JL put me in the spot to fight back. So, while in a much smaller status, I share his question of what makes others covet material wants so greatly they would abide a tyrant like Xi,
but while Jimmy would feel sorry for these men. I do not.
Evan Greenberg, @sorlins @GrahamTAllison Craig Allen & other CEO’s who went to China are not good men & women. They profit on the repression of others. There is no other metric.
In Easter Week I pray for all those who suffer repression, but we also need to remember those who support and enable that repression.
I’m glad that @AsadAToor tour got bail. But it’s a stain on Pakistan that he was held for so long just for being a critical journalist. This should NEVER happen again.
Judge Hamayun Dilawar ordered release of journalist Asad Toor today but what about those who registered a fake case against the journalist? What about the 10 days physical remand given to FIA for the investigation? What about the anti-state allegations in the FIR? It is now proved that all allegations were a pack of lies .
Impossible to see this as anything other than a cruel attack on press freedom. Ultimately, an assault on Pakistan’s democratic aspirations. @AsadAToor should be freed immediately.
Asad’s further remand was refused & he has been sent to Adiala.Our revision ag/ his previous further remand was disposed off today.We filed post arrest bail before Special Judge & requested earliest possible fixation. However, hearing has bn fixed for 14th March

Arrest of @AsadAToor must be condemned,criticism of judgements is not a crime & they are public property therefore it is a journalist’s duty & a right to criticize them.Journalists commenting on court proceedings will now censor themselves.Asad Toor must be released immediately.
Arrest of @AsadAToor by @FIA_Agency is highly condemnable. This is a chilling reminder to the journalist community that in a hybrid system of government nothing actually changes with the elections.
