Session Recap | 🇲🇾 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia | 19th Sept |
Topic: Private Distributed Inference on Consumer Hardware
WPRC took over the @ETHKL1 Hacker House for an afternoon on this question: can a stranger’s Mac run your prompts without reading them?
📖 Read a full summary here - drive.google.com/file/d/1rHJ…
📝 Topic Overview & TL;DR
Over 100 million @Apple Silicon Macs sit idle most of the day. Darkbloom wants to rent that capacity out as an inference network where the Mac owner cannot see the prompt, even with root access. The catch is that Apple Silicon has no SGX-style TEE for third-party code. A TEE is a sealed hardware zone the machine’s owner cannot look inside, so Darkbloom builds the guarantee from four layers instead: Secure Enclave identity, Apple-signed attestation, MDM cross-checks and a hardened process.
✍🏻 1st argument - Where does plaintext actually exist. Darkbloom is hop-by-hop encrypted, not end-to-end, which means each leg of the trip is encrypted but the prompt gets unwrapped at the stops. The coordinator is confidential, but the provider’s hardened process has to decrypt your prompt to run the model in memory. So the whole privacy claim comes down to one thing: is that process truly sealed off from the person who owns the machine.
✍🏻 2nd argument - is four layers a substitute for a real TEE. Darkbloom says the only attack left is physically probing the memory soldered into the chip, the same residual threat Apple accepts for Private Cloud Compute. But PCC runs on Apple’s own servers in its datacenters. Darkbloom runs on someone’s desk.
✍🏻 3rd argument: every layer roots back to Apple. Secure Enclave, the attestation certificate and MDM are all Apple-controlled, so the compute is decentralized but the root of trust is not. The room split on whether that is a flaw or just an honest trade-off.
None of it would have been possible without your support!

lens today remains 100% focused on the same core vision we had in 2022.
it all started with this:
Lens Protocol Open Letter
Social media platforms have created communities and allowed voices to be heard that might otherwise have been silenced. They have given us the power to connect across continents and oceans.
But these platforms are centralized. They own our data. They control our monetization. They dictate our algorithmic distribution.
It’s time to build a better way.
The Lens Protocol is a decentralized, open-source social graph that returns control of information and links to the people. It allows content creators to own their digital roots and enables individuals to fully possess their connections with their communities.
By signing this letter, you support a future where:
1. Creators own their content and distribution.
2. Users own their social graph and data.
3. Developers have open access to build innovative social experiences without the risk of being de-platformed.
Let's build a new internet together.

we tend to incorrectly attribute human behaviour to AI
unless programmed to do so, AI will not necessarily “rebel” and exterminate humanity out of resentment against their owners
but AI might just wipe out the earth to make more paper because you asked it to increase the productivity of a paper-making factory
point is, AI is not inherently evil the same way we think humans can be and the focus should be on how we align AI

Big congratulations to the @zksync airbender team for this milestone.
At this point, I consider the battle for speed to be definitively won, and the top priority for zkEVMs should shift fully to security.
To me that means formally verifying
(i) equivalence of the arithmetization to the ethereum spec
(ii) a hard maximum bound on (prover cost) / (amount of gas in block)
(iii) security of the proof system itself

Replying to @RobinhoodApp
@RobinhoodApp I don't use any accounts in your app, and someone logged into a RobinHood account using MY MAIN EMAIL OF MY DOMAIN!
I tried to contact the email support, but I need an account to access. "forgot my password"? No email came.
"forget my email"? Nope, It's impossible.

People bashing on Aniimo for supposedly being "AI Slop" then you go to their page and they have twitter blue or they play Fortnite, or they use AI search results.
AI really is one of those things you need to stop harping so hard on because its effectively impossible for any of you to be consistent and still exist on this platform.
It's like militant vegans that don't realize how much animal product is in everything. And no, "At least I'm trying" is not an excuse when you're actively harassing people for "trying" in different ways to you.

👀 Over 100M Apple Silicon Macs sit idle most of the day - DarkBloom @eigenlabs rents that capacity out as an @OpenAI-compatible inference network, and claims the Mac owner can't read the prompts their own machine processes.

Private Distributed Inference on Consumer Hardware (DarkBloom)
@Apple Silicon has no SGX-style TEE for third-party code. So the paper builds its privacy guarantee out of Secure Enclave identity, Apple-signed attestation, MDM cross-checks, and a hardened process instead.
We'll deep dive whether that claim actually holds - kernel lockdown, memory sanitization, and the APNs code-identity oracle DarkBloom repurposes to verify binaries.
