ALT ECMWF model snapshot shows a deep low and strong jet streak on eastern flank of the low over the Central Coast, a favorable configuration for upper-level "lifting" that may act in concert with cold air aloft and unusually warm near-surface temps due to ocean conditions to produce a few severe thunderstorms along the Central Coast.

ALT NOW is the time to act If you are in a high fire risk area: Prepare/review your evacuation plan for you and your loved ones Stay aware of your surroundings in case a fire starts. Fill up gas tanks of cars Plan for power outages: Charge necessary electronic and lighting devices Fill up generators if you have them. Secure any loose outdoor items Park cars away from trees Use extreme caution with anything that can spark a fire.

ALT A variety of weather impacts are expected this week into next week. Coastal Flood Advisories are currently in effect for Ventura/LA beaches and Catalina Island and continue into Tuesday, with high tides rising to 7+ feet by the weekend. The heat will wind down, as an upper level trough and moisture from Hurricane Rachel moves into the area, bringing some light to moderate rain and a 10% chance of thunderstorms to the area as early as Saturday morning, continuing until as late as Tuesday night (with highest chances Sunday/Monday).
