1/ 🚨 Excited to share our latest publication in Pathology! We explored the role of tumour necrosis as a prognostic factor in vulvar and vaginal melanomas (VVMs) and recommend that this be reported in synoptic surgical pathology templates to help refine staging.
Practical tips for starting a biomedical research lab! Group effort with Irving Cancer Immunology Symposium attendees, co-led with @amycfanphd. Thanks Nir for bringing us together.
Roy et al. posit that scientific independence alone is insufficient to build a sustainable lab under uncertain funding & offer practical guidance for defining a research vision, allocating resources, navigating funding opportunities & supporting trainees hubs.la/Q04zV5DW0

Proud to share our new paper in Science Advances.
We show that indoor tanning causes widespread mutational damage across the skin to increase melanoma risk, especially in body sites that rarely see sunlight.

I am really happy to see the #preprint of our work studying #acral #melanoma tumours from 🇲🇽 Mexican patients out today! This has been a ~8 year-long work involving many colleagues from Mexico and abroad. Some of our findings here below.... ⬇️ (1/12)

An honour to listen to Ruth Halaban @Yale, the first woman that graduated from @Princeton with a PhD degree in biology and recipient of the @PASPCR1 lifetime achievement award, talk about the #LZTR1 gene and #melanoma – at Manhattan, NY
WNT-activated melanocytoma with background melanocytic nevus. You don't always get such a good beta-catenin staining, got lucky over here. These often are concerning clinically due to the heterogenous pigmentation. #dermpath

Awesome #tweetorial 4 #dermpath #gynepath & #PathTwitter - not surprising as #tumor necrosis --> aggressive growth across many tumor types. It was a honour to work with @SimonRoyMD and Vincent to bring attention to this gendered #melanoma that so far is not well studied!
5/ 📈Kaplan-Meier survival analyses confirmed that tumour necrosis predicts poor outcomes for disease-specific, progression-free, and metastasis-free survival (p<0.001).
📉 Vaginal melanomas showed worse survival outcomes compared to vulvar or clitoral melanomas.
We suggest that tumor necrosis should be included in the prognostic models for VVMs. Grateful to my co-authors and all Can instit. for making this research possible. #dermpath #melanoma #Pathology #CancerResearch Thanks @redsnapperpath and Vincent Trinh for steering the ship!
