Major preprint from our group is out. Looking for feedback. We built the largest molecular atlas of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) to date linking somatic mutations and gene expression patterns to metastatic outcome. A Thread 🧵

Still waiting for @VPrasadMDMPH to to sit down for a real interview or podcast where the host(s) don't kiss his ass with softball questions.
I'm being asked to review papers at journals I have never heard of, and when I google these journals, they have insanely high impact factors. Apparently, I am not the only one to notice this.
A recent preprint documents an uptick in citations to a handful of journals despite no increases in other statistics associated with real readership. Established brands are not guilty. biorxiv.org/content/10.64898…
It funny to hear about the 17 hour time different between SF and Melbourne. It is not possible to have have more than a 12 hour time difference, unless you think NY and Chicago are 23 hours apart.
I wondered the same thing. No issues with the punishments doled out to the franchise and agent, but how did Leonard get off scot-free? He just thought someone wanted to pay him 10 mil for doing nothing?
My 100lb dog and I are tag teaming the @eightsleep app. Got an extra daytime sleep session in from 8am to 5pm, bringing our surplus sleep to nearly 25 hrs!
Most GWAS are meta-analyses that combine new cohorts with older studies, many of which relied on array-based genotyping. At what point is it better to start over with sequencing-based genotypes? More cases/controls is great, but I wonder when WGS resolution outweighs sample size
One of the great mysteries of academic publishing is why journals insist on taking large Excel tables, whicha re perfectly functional, searchable, and readable, and converting them into 87-page PDFs that are none of those things.
Spent more time than I care to admit today today trying to upload a table during a routine manuscript submission 🤦♂️. Am I right @_SharmaHarsh
Public-service warning: @BayAreaClipper made over $200 in unauthorized “parking” charges to my account. Still no refund or explanation despite 4 phone calls and many more emails.
I have not seen the data, but investors have. All signs suggest that the mRNA vaccine works in a phase III clinical trial.
Switching to the NIH common form was annoying for me personally, but I got over it. However, now I am having to ask every collaborator to deal with this on all my grants.
I’m noticing an uptick in desperate emails seeking volunteer labor from faculty. It feels like a symptom of the soft-money system reaching its breaking point. What’s striking is how often list-wide requests for unpaid faculty effort go out before remuneration is even considered.

Having seen supernatural talents in both math and biology, I would say that biology structurally requires more wisdom than virtuosity, but both require great creativity.
I love drafting detailed budgets and planned inclusion/enrollment reports for grants with a 6% funding rate!
